The only thing that makes Fuentes appealing is that he can adeptly set up or close. And, he's left-handed.

Time for Minaya to place another phone call to Denver to see if he can resuscitate the Heilman/Feliciano-for-Street deal.

If all the Mets do for that bullpen is add Street, they are going to be severely disappointed by the results.

The A's would love Heilman. A below average pitcher with no stuff and no expectations, working for a team that doesn't seem to care.

I like Street, but there's better shopping out there. The Mets at least pretend they give a shit, and if they get rid of two-thirds of that bullpen, I am sufficiently convinced that they do.

Mets have money - why be cheap and get Street? They obviously need a shutdown RP with Wagner out and F-Rod is the best of the bunch. They need to sign him.

I don't think the Mets see Street as their closer. He would be the setup man for K-Rod or Fuentes, whichever one drops his price to what the Mets consider to be an acceptable level. If they can get Street and K-Rod pitching the 8th and 9th, the bullpen issue will be all but solved.

Got it. Yes, I think Street/K-Rod would be a great combo.

Whatever they do, the clearly Mets need to make a splash in their bullpen, even if it means making K-Rod the highest paid closer in baseball history.

Not worth the start of a new thread, but if anybody's interested ... Retrosheet just announced one of its latest updates (they're biannual, usually):

Complete box scores for the 1923 American League season. So, if you want to see box scores for every game the AL champion Yankees played in their first season at the Stadium, click here.

Also updated were complete boxes/PBP from the 1922 NL season. If you want to check out game logs from John McGraw's final world championship season, click here.

    I (heart) Retrosheet. :D

Because there's always a sustained interest in him here, Freddy Garcia's comeback suffered another hit today. Bigtime arm problems in Venezuela.

Who just signed him? I can't remember. I know I wanted the Yankees to take a flier on him, but I'm glad they didn't -- Now.

A voice on high just told me the Tigers signed him.

    Excellent.
