Tortorella and McKenzie hammered Avery during the first intermission. McKenzie theorized that it was the 'sloppy seconds' that got Avery suspended; suggesting that that phrase and that it seemed to be ''premeditated" on top of his previous antics pushed the league's powers-that-be to suspend him.

Tortorella said that the Stars should "send him home" and said that if he was part of the Dallas management/coaching team, he'd ask Avery if he wants to be a player or not.

Matt Barnaby said that he thinks Avery is done in Dallas; that the Stars that may have supported him in the past are so disgusted with what he said and want nothing to do with him.

If Matthew Barnaby is disgusted by a player's behaviour, that's pretty telling.

Montreal has just blown a 3-0 lead.
Thrashers score two goals in seven seconds to tie it up

Well, it didn't take long for the Habs to right the ship.

Go ahead and then score an empty netter.

OK, just saw the Avery clip on SportsCenter.

Seriously? They indefinitely suspended a guy for saying "sloppy seconds?" Really? I mean, aside from being a really old term, what's offensive about that? Worse stuff than that HAS to be said every day.

A guy's dating his ex. It's kind of how it works.

I really have no idea, but it makes the NHL and the Dallas Stars look really stupid to me.

If the lovely Miss Cuthbert is involved, I'd gladly have sloppy 479ths.

You have to realize that the sloppy seconds comment was highly orchestrated, and it's the latest in a very long line of provocative behaviour by Avery.

And then there's this: Imagine if Phaneuf or someone else from Calgary (Bertuzzi) had attacked Avery, and he had been seriously hurt. Given the Bertuzzi-Moore precedent, that would not end up well for anybody, most notably the league.

As much of an idiot Bettman can be, he made the right move by avoiding this situation and would do well to keep Avery from ever repeating this scenario again. Not that he could, but theoretically you'd like to do what you can as a league to avoid negative publicity.

Not surprised by the actions of the league and I applaud them for it. If anything as a league that has a PR problem for tollerating fighting (another debate entirely and I am actually for fighting) the last thing they want to be seen as is under reacting in an instance where one of their players who is constantly in the media is making premedated derrogatory remarks towards women. They want to distance themselves as far as possible from the comments and the person making the comments and an indefinite suspension is the quickest and easiest form.

    Times two.

This is ridiculous. Worse shit is said on the ice every night by people far more vanilla than Avery ...

    Flash,

The whole thing was entirely pre-meditated. He just waited for the TSN camera to show up and he started yapping.

Did you see Marty Turco's reaction to it?
    He was disgusted.

Matthew Barnaby put it best when he admited he's said worse stuff but all of it was on the ice--which is where this crap stays.

The bottom line appears to be that this little puke has lost the respect of everyone in the league including his teammates.

I hope the league slaps him with about a ten game suspension.

I think this is a case where Avery's history played into the suspension.
