Yes, JR ... I am aware it was premeditated. Avery's job is to stir shit up. If we haven't figured out by now that he takes it off the ice, then we're the stupid ones, not Avery.

Any suspension, however, is friggin' ridiculous. The guy has a right to say ... amendments and charters and all things good.

As a member of the marketing world, I'm sitting back and laughing. Because hey, guess what, the gossip rags might get on this, the conversation is going on all over the internet right now ... the NHL and the Dallas Stars are ACTUALLY a topic of popular discussion today.

And as the old adage goes, there's no such thing as bad press.

    The Hurricanes fire Laviolette:

Amazing. Two coaches who won Stanley Cups in the Southeast Division both gone.

It ain't often but I disagree with you 110% :)

No, there is such a thing as bad press. Ask McCain Foods.

And this little bit of nonsense just reinforces non-hockey people that the NHL is bush league.

Avery is a classless prick and I think a lof of hockey fans would be happy if he were tossed from the league. And I bet there are 20 guys on the Dallas Stars who agree with me.

    Here's Cox:

Avery's miscalculation is that he's good enough to get away with this nonsense. Problem is, as his Dallas teammates have already figured out and told pals around the league, he doesn't have the game anymore, and so none of them are willing to put up with his annoying presence.

He must not have liked his internship at Vogue, because those folks will never hire him again after this misogynistic outburst. Avery is gradually moving towards David Frost pariah-like status. Maybe he can blog on Frost's new website.

The league needs more Jerome Iginlas, not more Sean Averys

OMG no! TSN.com says that Maurice is coming back to Raleigh? I like Mo personally, but DO NOT want this to happen.

    isn't the NHL celebrating "Slapshot"?

Avery should have said...."Melissa sucks pussy!!!! I KNOW!"

    Ahem ... Jarome. ;)

It was mentioned to me this morning by a male marketer that this is likely to a crisis in alienating the female market share.

Wrong. Why? Because we see Elisha Cuthbert for a trollop and that's what Avery did ... pointed out that she's a trollop.

    The menfolk are over-reacting.

    Simmer the hell down.

What if a female athlete said "floppy seconds" in referring to past boyfriends?

Seems to be a bit of a stretch to compare Avery to Frost.

Worse things are said every day on the ice, but those things aren't repeated in an orchestrated press conference. having said that I'm not sure he should be suspended. It's a moronic, idiotic statement which Avery is known for. This is a league that allows players to degrade Francophones and Europeans all the time. Where do you draw the line?

Maybe I'm just old but I found Avery's remark highly offensive and I'm glad he was suspended.

I know his remarks don't always make sense, but does Avery think he was Cuthbert's first? Or Rachel Hunter's, for Christ's sake? Why is it only Phaneuf and Jarret Stoll that are getting sloppy seconds?

And I don't think this alienates the female market either. I've heard women use that term just as often as men, if not more.

It's absolutely offensive and just another example of how much a jerk Avery is.
