That criticism would make more sense if Avery had just made it up as he went. That twatwaffle was rehearsing that line in his head all throughout the flight to Calgary and waited until the TV lights were on to say it.

Somebody should punch him in the sack.

Hey, at least you get Tortorella with that. We miss him down here.

And as good as LaViolette is, and as crazy as the owners are here in Tampa, I'm not sure they're going to chase after him.

So that probably means it'll happen.

Interesting. Sean Avery no longer listed on Dallas Stars roster.

    Interesting column by Eric Duhatschek

Basically, there's an argument that Avery has breached his contract.

On that July 2 date, when Sean Avery signed a four-year, $15.5-million (U.S.) contract with the Dallas Stars, he probably gave just a cursory glance at the 11-page document in front of him — the NHL's standard players' contract (SPC).

Here's a refresher course from page 2, article 2 (e), in which Avery agreed — among other things — "to conduct himself on and off the rink according to the highest standard of honesty, morality, fair play and sportsmanship, and to refrain from conduct detrimental to the best interest of the Club, the League or professional hockey."

That's tricky legal ground but the other options are buying out his contract or putting him on waivers and when he clears (for certain), sending him down to the minors.

One thing seems kinda clear from what Bob McKenzie has said: Avery's days as a Star may be over.

    Excellent finds. both of you.

I, having seen some of Tippett's press availability today, would like to commend the reporter who pressed him on the Avery question, and Tippett himself, as I saw it on 'On The Fly'. The questioner pressed the question as to whether Avery would be welcolmed back in the Stars' room, and Tippett was nicely blunt in his response.

    What did he say?

If it was anything shy of, "we're always looking for new towel boys," fail. ;D

    Man, I wish JJ.

I can't find online feed, but its pretty much part of the lead on 'On The Fly' tonight.

I don't understand the assumed anti-American sentiment. It is something that popped up in, I think it was, a Kelly column on SI.com over the Burke hiring — although with everything else I heard during his signing it was a non-issue.
I think the game is international enough that we wouldn't care, some of the best Oilers since the Gretzky days were American — Weight, Guerin, Marchant, Grier, Reasoner (OK, he's a stretch) — and some of their current top young players are American as well — Schremp, Gilbert, Petry and others. I truly believe the only thing that would matter is if they were winning. If he came to Edmonton and they continued to lose then it might come up, but that would be the only time. I think the bigger issue issue would be bringing in the coach that beat the Oilers in the finals than the fact that he is American.

I personally would welcome him with open arms.

I think since the Hlinka spell in Pittsburgh, there is a certain stigma attatched to European coaches, unfair as it may be.

But, as Beef said, I don't think there is such a thing for American coaches in Canada. If Doug Wilson can be hired by the Leafs, Laviolette can be hired by the Oilers.

Beef's right, doesn't matter where the coach is from as long as they win
