Sykora's hat trick ended an NHL-record run.

He had scored two goals in a game 38 times before recording his first hat trick tonight.

There was almost a line brawl in San Jose too. It was a good night for the NHL. :D

That's very little assurance, HB. A loss like the one to Philly is the kind that can train-wreck a season.

Whalercanes were up 5-1 after two. Flyers gave them a clinic on forecheck pressure, scored four in the third, and didn't allow one in after a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty late in OT. Lost the shootout quickly.

Brutal. Freaking brutal. Paul Maurice now has some mental repair in addition to the other tweaks he's trying to implement. And no one's stopping the regular season to allow these to take effect: Rangers on Saturday at MSG. Ugh ...

    San Jose Sharks: 23-3-2.

Man, this team looks loaded for a deep run.

Saving you all from long unending rant.
Bill Clement can suck my balls.
    That is all.

It was a train wreck. But consider that Carolina played with an AHL blue line.

And, to be honest, the Canes got several breaks from the referees in this game.

Pretty wild rumor reported on NHL Live: Rangers trade defenseman Michael Rozsival to Dallas for Sean Avery. Rangers, then, send Avery to AHL Hartford in an attempt to clear cap space for Mats Sundin.

    interesting rumor.....

I keep forgetting about Sundin....do ya think he'll end up coming back at all?

What am I missing here? Why wouldn't they just waive Rozsival, whose annual cap hit is more than a million more than Avery's and whose contract has an identical term?

EDIT - maybe Rozsival has a NMC, in which case that trade would make sense.

ANOTHER EDIT - Would that make enough room for Sundin, though? Is he going to play for a pro-rated portion of $5 million?

Rozsival was signed to a four year, $20 million deal in the off-season.

If Avery gets sent down to the AHL, what is the cap hit?

OK, this is kinda funny. A woman writes to the local newspaper advice columnist about her Penguins obsessed boyfriend.

DEAR MARGO: I have been dating a guy for two years, and when we met, everything was perfection. We have had ups and downs, of course, but I feel there's one thing that is always putting a strain on our life: My boyfriend is totally obsessed with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Everything he does revolves around them, from the clothes he wears each day (always a Penguins hat and/or shirt) to the car he drives (his license plate boasts the name of his favorite player) to his room, which is covered floor to ceiling with 8 by 10 pictures, jerseys in cases, pucks, sticks, game-used skates and hockey cards. He needs to go to all the home games (42-plus over eight months), and he goes alone because he only has one ticket. His hockey mania takes a huge toll on our relationship because it involves a large chunk of time away from "us." We both work and go to school, so our time is limited, but the Penguin season in the mix makes it much worse. I end up feeling unimportant to him -- almost as if he has a second girlfriend and he's cheating on me with "her." Please help me find a way to make him understand my feelings and to lessen the strain on our relationship.

To quote Paul Romanuk who was calling a Gold Medal game.

    IT.......IS...........OVER!
