I popped into the HHOF gift shop after getting a FUCKING HAIRCUT :) a couple of Saturdays ago and there had to be at least 50 people lined up at the cash desk. Unreal.

You're right, but it's still ironic that the immortal Richard is in fact dead while the mortal Howe just keeps going and going and going......just like during his playing days. Richard? He was too brittle to live. :D

As for the stickwork being common back then, you're right about that too. But the truth is Howe could do more damage with his fists and his elbows than Richard could with his stick. Case in point - Hal Laycoe is an afterthought to the whole Richard thing. Most people would have to look up the incident to remember who the Bruin was at the centre of it. But, for as long as hockey is played, Lou Fontinato will be remembered as the guy Howe all but destroyed in a brutally lopsided fight.

  3. And, of course, Beliveau is the greatest gentleman ever.

The suspension and subsequent riot weren't because of his attack on Laycoe but his attack on the linesman.

Howe may have been the dirtiest player in the league---not that there's anything wrong with that. :)

I wonder if Leapin' Lou ever got that nose replaced---you know, the one Gordie spread all over Lou's face.

And turned down the role of Governor-General.

He goes to all Habs games.

Dick Irvin had a great interview with him a couple of weeks ago on HNIC.

Never had the pleasure of meeting Monsieur Beliveau. There is, however, a special place in my heart for a certain Leafs goalie.

Be careful what you wish for.

Instead of coal, you might get an Alfredsson jersey in your stocking. :)
