I don't think Sheppard was there. He's been in ill health.

Might have been a good WWE-Jim Ross moment, though. "Good God! Almighty, it's Kerry Wood!"

Found this video of Chase Utley saying F-you to New York fans pretty funny:

I don't think this deserves its own thread so I'll put it here. I was looking back at old All-Star Game results and realized that it's been 35 years since the ASG has been played in Kansas City, 42 since it was in St. Louis and 44 years since the Mets hosted it.

I can understand why Shea has been bypassed. It's a shithole and the Yankees have hosted the game twice. But I'm sure the Mets will get another turn before KC will and
St. Louis is getting the game next year.

Why has KC been ignored? Seattle's had it twice. Houston's had it twice. San Diego had it twice at Jack Murphy. Philly had it twice at the Vet. Pittsburgh has had it three times - twice at Three Rivers! They held the game in Oakland three years after it was played across the Bay in San Francisco.

24 cities have hosted the last 34 games. The only current ML franchises who have yet to host one are Arizona, Tampa and Florida. I'm not including D.C. because the Expos had the game in 1982.

Why is there no love for KC?

I would assume they're going to get it once the current renovations are finished.

That was part of the renovation campaign - do the renovations and you'll get an All-Star game. Who knows how soon, though.

I've always been struck by how beautiful Royals Stadium (the original name before it was renamed Kauffman Stadium) was when I'd watch games on TV. It's a fucking SIN that stadium hasn't hosted an All Star Game in 35 years.

When the Giants played at KC in interleague a few weeks ago, the Giants' TV guys raved about the ballpark. One of them, Mike Krukow, had never been there before (at least I think that's what he said) and said he had no idea how beautiful it was, that you don't appreciate it until you see it in person.

Gotta agree with the other sentiments, especially Krukow's. Royals Stadium is a gorgeous place to watch a ballgame. TV doesn't do it justice, and frankly, that team doesn't do it justice.

If it wasn't so far away from the ocean that I love, I'd be very inclined to live in K.C. And being able to see games at Royals Stadium on a regular basis would be a large part of the reason why.

Minor league teams are ineligible to host the major league all-star game.
