And at the start of the season NASCAR bent over backward to say drivers would be encouraged to show more personality and speak their minds. That lasted five months.

When I read that Stewart quote yesterday I broke out laughing.

We're happy to be here. It's great. That's what we've been told

    Priceless.

Tony Stewart, when sarcastic, is one of the funniest guys in sports.

Stewart donated last weekend's paycheck to go to flood relief in his hometown. Very cool.

Yates Racing, desperate for a win, is going to try a new tactic this weekend at Sears Point: looking so much like a police car that everybody else gets nervous, slows down and moves over.

That's kind of a sad moment for what was formerly a truly great race team.

My love for NASCAR died July 13, 1993.

In an instant I went from living and breathing it to "tell me who won."

I can honestly remember the moments that I got the phone call when Davey Allison had the crash and the second one when he died.

When Smoke announced he was going to donate his winnings I'd have bet my next paycheck he'd finish top-10, and he hadn't been doing that for weeks. Finishes fifth.

I like that car, but yeah, how sad. You can get cute like that when you don't have two nickels of sponsorship money to rub together. Or is the CHP actually kicking in some bread?

My son's 10th birthday. I was pretty bummed. Davey was a good guy.

CHP is kicking in some bread; it's part of their recruitment program.

Damn sad that Yates can't come up with a full-time sponsor, especially considering that Kvapil's been pretty good in the 28 this year. At least Jack Roush has been able to get some of his more eager sponsors onto the 28 and 38 for Yates this year.

I think we can all agree that no one is going to care enough to want to see Kvapil's point of view at Sonoma. So why not replace the little TV bubble on the roof with a rotating/strobe light?

Seriously, 2mcm's right. Kvapil and Gilliland have run as well as could reasonably have been expected.

Then again, perhaps they'd just have success with one sponsor only to see them run off to Childress if Jack D. ever bails.

They've given up on working on this year, at least in terms of full-time money. They're going to piecemeal it the rest of the way, and start working on next year.

That would be epic. Then watch it get caught speeding down pit road.

Can anyone help with an update from the Trucks race tonight as to when the weather delay may end?
