A former University of Tulsa football player who went on to win the WCCW titles with Hayes.

OK, not like I remembered that myself. He's got his own Wikipedia entry, but who doesn't? I did remember the name, though, and that he had some kind of Oklahoma tie.

Yeah, thinking back on it, didn't he kind of cut his teeth in the business in Bill Watts' old UWF?

Whatever, the case, Cox sucked ass.

Man, that old UWF was awesome, though. I wish they'd start showing reruns of that on ESPN Classic. That and/or old Memphis rasslin'.

I believe WWE owns those. Maybe not UWF, because I'm sure they would have hurried thouse onto 24/7 by now. ESPN owns the rights to what it showed back in the day, so that'd be runs of AWA, World Class and GWF (should you ever want to see Buff Bagwell hit on fat chicks in a zorro mask)

World Class would be awesome as well.

I think I read somewhere that WWE does not own UWF footage...apparently Bill Watts' ex-wife got it in their divorce settlement, and she's been pawning the stuff off on eBay.

Given that I can't imagine Bill Watts having a good relationship with WWE types, you'd think his ex would sell it to Vince just to cheese him off.

    Yeah, probably.

I have about 35 old videotapes of stuff I recorded off TV when I was a kid, and about 10 of them are UWF and to me, THAT is what old-school rasslin' is all about. Great storylines, physicality, lots of blood, a little T&A and crazy fans.

I used to stay up until 2 am to watch/record it when I was in high school, and never regretted it for a second.

I used to think it was the old Cleveland Browns kicker with the same name.

Funny thing, a few years ago, I saw Cox (the wrestler) on TV in a Japanese MMA bout. He got destroyed.

Just as I figured. No buzz at all for TNA's PPV. Booker apparently won the title, but Samoa Joe didn't lose and Sting was involved, too.

Tap, tap, tap, tap -- the sound of people who keep trying to give this promotion a chance giving up any hope for something good.

Seriously? The guy has to be in his mid-40s at least by now. Not that that's a deathknell in MMA, but still, he didn't strike me as some world-beating athlete even back then once you got past his roided-up look.

I was going to post that. I read the report of some guy who calls himself a "wrestling journalist" (which, outside of maybe three guys, is a tough claim to make) absolutely tear into the PPV, saying that nothing made sense, there was no rationale to the booking, etc.

I forgot the PPV was last night. Thank goodness. Not that I would have watched it anyway, but still...

All this talk about themes, and no love for the old Kurt Angle song with the trumpets? Plus, it lent itself so easily to the fans' chant of "Youuuu suck! You suck! Youuuuuu suck! You suck!"
Runner-up: Randy Savage, the bombastic final stanza of "Pomp and Circumstance."

He stole that from The Patriot.
