Oh, there's enough data out there to have a decent one. And that aside, the sport relies on the AP poll for much of its allure, as I detailed several pages back.

I've been curious about this myself. Yes, Kansas looked bad early, but it won. Meanwhile som who claim Kansas shouldn't be ranked because it's beaten no one significant are putting in Minnesota. I guess I've underestimated Montana State.

    Della, a gripe:

Please do not refer to USC as "Southern Cal." It is Southern California or USC. Years ago, the school sent out a release specifically asking media outlets to refrain from calling it Southern Cal. They did not listen, of course . . . .

To me, it creates a myth of an affiliation with Cal. That school, aka UC Berkeley, is the flagship of the University of California system, which also includes UCLA and others. When the media calls one school "Cal" and another "Southern Cal" that implies a connection between the public system flagship and the private school in South central L.A. that charges an exhorbitant amount of tuition.

    Thank you.

Oh, no beefs with your poll otherwise.

    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know I give more love to the undefeateds that just about everybody but to me, not losing a game in this day and age is tougher than ever, regardless of the schedule and those teams deserve to be recognized -- just look at the losses some teams have already suffered. But I have no qualms about saying that if/when Ball State and Tulsa get that first loss, they will sink like a stone whereas if Northwestern loses to Penn State, they won't. But if they lose to Indiana, they'll drop hard.
