Except for when it comes to rooting for baseball teams.

OK, I'll start here with Week 1. After the aforementioned games, these are the other (what I consider) games of intrigue and the what-the-eff games.

Maine at Iowa. Maine?! Let me get this straight, Iowa: You're opening with Maine. As in the Black Bears. That is just sad.
Hawaii at Florida. When does Urban call off the dogs? What will the halftime score be? I say 59-6.
Villanova at West Virginia. See Maine at Iowa. C'mon, 'neers, you can do better than this.
Appy State at LSU. Can Appy State do it again in an opener? Any shot in hell? Remember, no one -- NO ONE -- fathomed a win at the Big House.
Florida Atlantic at Texas. Schnellenberger's boys return 17 starters from a bowl-winning team. Would it be an upset to hook the Horns in Austin?
Michigan State at Cal. This could be a really good game.
Alabama at Clemson. It'll be 59-7 Clemson or 24-20 Alabama. I'm bucking for the former.
Illinois at Mizzou. Was 2007 a fluke? Can Juice juice the Illini again? Probably not. Mizzou should win by 50.
Fresno State at Rutgers. One of the most intriguing opening-week games. Fresno State will be good. Rutgers is like South Florida, riding the crest of a wave toward prominance, with two straight bowl wins. But no more Ray Rice. I'm calling Fresno State, and it will be a terrific street fight.

All right, who's doing Week 2?

Hey now, can't bash on UMaine too much. They did win at Mississippi State four years ago (the SEC!) and played the Huskers tough in Lincoln the year after that.

Who hasn't played the Huskers tough lately?

BTW, like Wiscy, Iowa is another program that baffles me. One of those programs that ought to have won a national title in the last 25 years. Makes no sense.

South Dakota State Jackrabbits? I didn't even know there was a South Dakota State. But, it is Iowa State, so the Jackrabbits will be in it till the end.

They did end on a 5-game win streak last year, and the QB is a senior with decent stats.

    They're 20-13 the last 3 years combined.

Edit: Can't stop looking at the Jackrabbits' season last year. The trip to Georgia Southern must've been an interesting clash of territories. QB Berry had a pretty good game.

SDSU (no, not the Aztecs) only lost one game by more than 6 points (31-17 to Northern Iowa, which is a top-tier I-AA school).

Arizona State should have beaten LSU a few years ago in the desert, and I think Georgia might be in for a bitch of a game.

The wide-open Pac-10 style always seems to give teams problems. I would never bet for or against the Pac_10 in non-conference games. The results are very unpredictable.

    Just ask Bo and Michigan.

And right on schedule, Virginia enters the paranoia-as-coaching-career-ends-poorly death spiral. You just keep your pesky little signs at home, m'kay?

I thought they played on Jan. 1st last year?

Tell Chadwick his quiche is getting cold on the tailgate and STFU and STFD with the signs.
