Still a national power, especially so after next week's win over Texas.

So, are you saying you're putting one-loss teams ahead of unbeaten teams with solid victories in your poll?

USC and Florida don't deserve to be ahead of UT, Alabama and Penn State at this point in the season, and I'd argue Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, as well. Losses to Oregon State and Ole Miss ensure that. Those teams aren't even sniffing the top 25...maybe even top 50.

I don't really like having Alabama at No. 2, but it's been ranked in my poll throughout the entire season, slowly moving up along the way. Show me a college program where Saban hasn't had success. Toledo, Michigan State, LSU...the guy is damned good in the college ranks.

As far as polls are concerned, USC and Florida have to pay their penalties for losing, but they have -- by far -- better athletes and defenses than any other team above them. And Penn State's the best of the rest.

Yeah, their athletes are above and beyond. But the Trojans lost to the Beavers, and the Gators lost AT HOME to the Rebels (which is the worse of the two losses).

That's how polls work. You lose you suffer you have to work your way back up the ladder.

OK, I can't necessarily argue with your reasoning there, TBF. I disagree somewhat, but this is all opinion anyway. I think Texas Tech will certainly slip during their gauntlet run, and would probably lose to Florida and USC, but for right now, it's still unbeaten. The only reason Penn State doesn't top my poll is because it doesn't have that signature victory like Texas and Alabama.

That's the thing about Alabama -- they don't have a signature win. Sure, they went in and beat Georgia like a drum. But Georgia did as much to lose that game as Alabama did to win it, including two penalties that kept the opening drive going and put them behind early.

Alabama did something right to be up 31-0 at halftime.

I have a question for those leaving Vandy in their poll. Not sniping, but something I thought of while typing in ballot data.
Are you leaving them in because they are legit top 25 or because, even with one loss, you want them to continue this feel-good story?

    I'll hang up and listen...

A victory against a consensus top-5 team isn't a signature victory? No matter how Alabama beat the Bulldogs, that is absolutely a signature victory.

Again, I just wasn't as impressed as others, I guess.
