i'm impressed with your objectivity, and i'm not terribly impressed with bama, but man, it has a couple of quality wins. i have SC higher than it should be, but bama still is in front of the trojans.

    Okay here my top 5:

    1. Texas
    2. Penn State
    3. Texas Tech, yes overrated. But a win is a win, and Nebraska isn't the worst team in the nation. And in the end....Tech's defense wins it! defense!
    4. Alabama
    5. Oklahoma, might not have dropped them far, but I think they are the best of the one-loss teams and still better than the OSU and BYU (my 6 and 7)

Put Bama and SC on the same field, then get back to me.

    My top five.
    1. Penn State — The Nittany Lions are taking every opponent and just throttling them.
    2. Texas — Very close to No. 1. Really a 1A and 1B scenario.
    3. Alabama
    4. Southern Cal
    5. Oklahoma

To answer Slappy's question, I have Vandy in at No. 18 because I think they're a legit top 25 team. They're in a pack with South Florida, Oregon and North Carolina as teams that are top 25 but I am not sure what to do with.

    1. Texas
    2. Alabama
    3. USC
    4. Florida
    5. Penn State
    6. Oklahoma
    7. Texas Tech
    8. Georgia
    9. Ohio State
    10. BYU

At this point, there is enough evidence to leapfrog teams and move them around based on what you have seen, and expect to see. Texas gave a great account of itself while Alabama sat. I still think USC will run the table from here; their recent inability to win in Corvallis got their attention. Florida just throttled LSU. Penn State maybe should be higher, but until they run through an entire season in this manner, I've seen this start before.
Texas Tech is way overrated, but that will take care of itself.

Biggest drop was Missouri, from No. 1 to out of the top 10. Just felt like I was watching a team that hadn't really played anyone yet, get exposed at home. No bonus points for Chase Daniel saying he did not have a reason why Missouri played poorly, giving absolutely no credit to an Okie State team that executed an offensive game plan, and was very sure-tackling on defense. If they beat Texas next week, they'll rocket up the polls. Anything can happen when a bunch of 20-year-olds take the field.

Well, there's that...and the fact they don't play anyone from now until the bowl season. Ball State could run USC's table from here.

    Ball State's a pretty solid team . . . . .

But each of the past two years, USC's schedule looked easy and they lost one they should not have. Can't imagine it happening a third straight year.

I completely agree with everything you wrote there. Shit, I have Ball State at No. 18. You can't spell "stud" without three of the letters in "Nate Davis."

Penn State and JoePa will be undefeated on Christmas Day this year, and they will be playing for the National Title.

I'm not saying they are going to win it, but they will be playing for it.

I just don't understand why Penn State isn't third on your list. They're not playing any weaker of a schedule than anyone else. As Slappy pointed out, they whooped the team that beat USC.

And Florida demolished an LSU team that was over-ranked. They are far from last year's LSU's team.

If Penn State beats Ohio State, just as USC did, then damn straight Penn State should be higher than USC.
