Maybe this is the thing that pushes Sid to implode...

I didn't post my ballot this week because I had to rush it, but the combination of several teams being idle and the general suckiness below, say, the No. 10 spot made the final five really tough. I threw Florida State in at No. 25 almost by default. People say why do they deserve it, well, why does any team deserve it?

This is one year where the old top 20 system would have sufficed just fine.

The AP was top 20 until 1988.

    Ah. Didn't realize that.

Any idea why it was changed?

I vaguely recall bitching and moaning that worthy teams were being left out of the rankings, but I don't know for sure.

In addition, through most of the 60s, the AP poll reverted from top 20 to top 10 before it went back to 20.

I seem to remember the rationale was also something like everyone looked at the HM's and as 21, 22, 23... and they said they might as well make it official...

    No doubt.
From 18 back, I was struggling to find some worthy teams.

I could very easily be wrong, but I thought the AP going to 25 teams was in reaction to the USA Today poll, which has always been a top 25.

That's why I've got VA at 25. Who the fuck else was I gonna put there? They've had three wins against teams currently or formerly in the top 25. More than I could say for anyone else. And, again, I LOATHE Al Groh.

And I think we should expand the poll to 119. The other 94 teams try just as hard as the top 25!!!!
