    Re: 2008 SportsJournalists.com college football poll -- WEEK 8 10/20, Pg. 65

    My poll:

1-5: Texas, Alabama, Penn State, Oklahoma, USC. No changes.
6-10: Florida, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Texas Tech, Ohio State. Did not drop the Cowboys at all. They played the number one team in the country tough, better than anyone else this year. Their loss was much better than Georgia's to the number two team, so why should the Bulldogs be ahead? I finally give the Red Raiders some credit, impressive beat-down of decent Kansas. We'll see next two weeks.
11-15: Utah, Boise State, TCU, Missouri, LSU. Really struggled with the last two. Mizzou has two top-seven losses, one tight, one ugly. LSU has two top-six losses, both ugly. But, would anyone below them do any better?
16-20: Ball State, Minnesota, Tulsa, BYU, Florida State. How does anyone fill out their lists? This is awful.
21-25: Virginia, Oregon, South Florida, Georgia Tech, North Carolina. Virginia? I know. The Cavs have three losses, but four consecutive wins -- including 31-0 over Maryland (now in both polls) and back-to-back over two ranked teams, North Carolina and Georgia Tech (that one on the road). On the upswing, and deserve the spot.

A quick insight on my ballot -- 1. Texas, 2. Alabama, 3. Penn State, 4. Texas Tech, 5. Utah.

Oklahoma State dropped out of my top five from 4 to 6.

Added to the top 25 -- Florida State at 19, Oregon at 20, Troy at 21, Michigan State at 22, Notre Dame at 23, Air Force at 24.
Dropped from top 25 -- South Florida, Pitt, Boston College, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati

Other Notes: Dropped LSU from 15 to 25, Mizzou jumped from 23 to 17. Ohio State only down two spots to 18.

Kansas and Boston College won't be joining us this week so that we may welcome Florida State and repeat contestant UNC to the ACC Wheel of Mediocrity. I mean really, can anyone in this conference stand prosperity? I've tried out half the team in the league in my poll at various points this year (and that includes resisting Georgia Tech, which needed a blocked field goal to avoid overtime against Gardner-Webb), and none of 'em can hold up in a stiff breeze.

Arizona and South Carolina get to hang around with sketchy records on account of nobody below them being any damn good.

    My ballot ...

    1. Texas
    2. Penn State
    3. Alabama
    4. USC
    5. Oklahoma
    6. Florida
    7. Georgia
    8. Utah
    9. Texas Tech
    10. Boise State
    11. Oklahoma State
    12. TCU
    13. Missouri
    14. Ohio State
    15. LSU
    16. Tulsa
    17. Michigan State
    18. BYU
    19. Minnesota
    20. Florida State
    21. Ball State
    22. Maryland
    23. California
    24. Kansas
    25. West Virginia

-- Ball State finally makes an appearance and No. 25 was an exercise in futility. I had Oregon and Air Force in that slot before I finally settled on the Mountaineers. I fully expect them to not stick. Like Elliotte, I left Oklahoma State alone.
