First, nice breakdown, slappy. The moment I read, "The Nittany Lions finish unbeaten, but as we learned from Auburn in 2004, that doesn’t mean a thing," I was thinking more about Penn State's five unbeaten seasons that didn't end with a national championship. Though the Auburn comparison certainly makes sense with respect to the BCS.

Two things stood out to me. First, that Alabama had six more first-place votes than anyone else but came in second, meaning some people might have had them out of the top three. Second, that USC got a first-place vote with so many other good options floors me.

Six points from first to third, four and five separated by eight...
And if someone had voted when he was on this morning, we could have had a tie for first.

You know, I was so focused on the first-place votes, I didn't notice the total points. Wow.

Who gave USC a No. 1 vote?
    And why?

Has there ever been a first-place tie in the SportsJournalists.com poll?

USC is good, I'll give them that. But ranking them ahead of the undefeateds in Penn State, Bama and Texas Tech? Why?

Yet Boise State is in your top 10?

The WAC is atrocious every year, but that doesn't stop people from ranking the Broncos high.

That really is a remarkable top three.

I didn't think it'd be possible for a team to be first when it had six fewer no. 1 votes than no. 2. Awesome.

    Previous spot in paranthesis:
    1. Penn State (2); 2. Texas Tech (4); 3. Alabama (3); 4. Texas (1); 5. Florida ( 8 )

Penn State creeps up to No. 1 this week by virtue of Texas losing. And even though the Red Raiders beat my former No. 1 team, I just couldn't find it in me to put them at No. 1. Florida is back in the top 5 after dismantling Georgia, and the Gators would have leapfrogged Texas had the Horns not made that a game in the second half.

    6. Oklahoma (6); 7. Oklahoma State (7); 8. USC (9); 9. Boise State (11); 10. Utah (10)

Boise State and Utah move in because of losses by other teams. That's pretty much it.

    11. Georgia (5); 12. BYU (12); 13. Ohio State (14); 14. Ball State (15);
    15. TCU (16)

Biggest movement was Georgia falling six spots.

    16. North Carolina (17); 17. Missouri (18); 18. LSU (19); 19. Michigan State (UNR); 20. West Virginia (23)

Michigan State and West By God move up. Somehow I left Sparty out of my poll last week after (I think) having them in the week before. Many apologies to Sparty ...

    21. Cincinnati (UNR); 22. Kansas (UNR); 23. Tulsa (13); 24. California (UNR); 25. Georgia Tech (UNR)

Toughest section to fill out. I had Florida State, Virginia, West By God, Minnesota and Oregon in those spots last week. Four of the five lost, and I dropped them accordingly (sorry, Zeke, but your Gophers just don't cut it for me). It seems the last five in changes each week for me.
