West Virginia backed out and there were conflicts with Troy and Middle Tennessee (both bowl teams) because they played each other, so Ball State couldn't play either one. They got hosed at The Big House -- when Michigan was playing for a national title -- in 2006. They nearly won at Nebraska in 2007. And they're going to Auburn in 2009.

All in all, Ball State does a good job trying to schedule someone from a BCS conference each season.

I asked you earlier, but it was pages ago so you probably missed it, what will it take for Ball State to squeeze into a BCS bowl?

Sorry, I missed that. This thread grew seven pages since I posted last night.

They can't do it. Utah's in, and non-BCS teams like Boise State and Ball State will have to make due in Detroit, Boise or wherever it might be. Basically, they would need to start next season with a buzz and go 12-0 next season, which would include a win at Auburn. But Ball State better run the table this year first, to get that preseason buzz and maybe make a run in '09.

Bottom line, Ball State at least tries to schedule good games. How could they know Nebraska would be 5-7? These schedules are sometimes made four, five years down the line. It's not like they're not making an attempt. Like Hawaii a year ago, sometimes teams back out of contracts and there's nothing you can do.

Well, at least they win the games they're supposed to win.
