The same reason Alabama shouldn't be No. 1.

Because Hawaii wasn't good enough, as Georgia proved. I think Alabama will be shown as a fraud soon enough.

and yet, while the sec is a fucking joke this season, it's still better than the teams utah and boise state are playing week in and week out.

I'm not arguing that, but you want Alabama No. 1 just for being unbeaten.

I guess the real question is how people are voting, are they voting on who the best team is right now, or what team has had the best season.

Utah's played some good teams in TCU, BYU and Air Force.

and if you play a decent schedule, being unbeaten has to count for something, just as a loss has to count for something.

But who has Alabama played? The Georgia win on the road is a good one, but who else have they played?
Also, Alabama is not doing what they need to do to get respect -- win with style.
OT against LSU and only beating Arkansas State by 35 doesn't cut it. They need to do what Florida did to the Citadel, win by 60 +

That's running up the score. No class.

Class doesn't put in the title game.
At least not in the system we presently have.

Unfortunately in a classless, playoff-less system like we have now, it plays a role.
It doesn't play a monstrous role, no, but it surely plays a role.
You have to show people every week what your team can do, and letting off the gas can bite you in the ass every time when it comes to voters who just look at scores.
Can Alabama win the National Championship? Sure, why not?
Is Alabama the best team in the country right now? Not even close.
