Voter fraud alert! UCLA? East Carolina? UConn?!? Nebraska? Colorado? And a 1 vote to West-by-God?!? Who's voting in the poll, anyway? Geno Auriemma and DisembodiedOwlHead?

    :D

I'm the person giving WVU a No. 1 vote. It's gonna stay that way till they lose. I also had Nebraska at 23. Can't speak to the other schools, though. They weren't in my poll.

Slap, I'm sure that will be better than any other college football column I will read this week.

I hope someone on this board in a high standing position in some high standing paper or internet site will read it and take note.

    Great stuff.

But by quantifying the players, you are trying to take into account what will happen or what you think will happen. I vote based on what I know the day the vote is due, not what I think will be the case by the start of December.

East Carolina received fewer votes than VaTech? That surprised me.

Ya know TP, some of your choices are less than inspiring. Arizona State at 8, BYU at 13, Tech at 15?? What exactly did those teams do to earn top 15 status? And you give Arizona a bone at 25? I'd rather put Bama at 3 than give Arizona a vote for anything after one game.

That's not exactly true. I bumped Ohio State out of No. 1 because I was unsure of the status of Wells, one of the best backs in the country. You take him out of the offense, for example, and that's a big blow to OSU. If, God forbid, Tim Tebow was seriously injured this weekend, it wouldn't affect Florida's ranking or how good they are as a team?

It's not about projecting. It's about taking the team that is there - and all of its components - and figuring out how they stack up. I don't think you can look at it solely from a results standpoint, IMO. There's a website out there (I wish I still had the address) that allowed you to pick any two teams and 'prove' that one was better than another, solely on the basis of who beat who (provided you're not talking about winless or undefeated teams). It was able to link enough teams to show that my alma mater, a middling Division III program, was 'better' than Washington State: Moravian beat A, which beat B, which beat C, which beat D ... which beat Washington State. Of course, there is no way, not by any measurement, that Moravian is a better team than Washington State.

Hustle, until Ohio State takes a loss, I will keep them at the top. Especially during the first few weeks of chumps and one decent game schedule these teams book.
