My first thought when I saw it. I like that voter's independence, but I didn't have the guts to go from No. 23 to No. 1.

    And slappy, again, well done.

Ohio State got a No. 1 vote?

Oh, and is the only reason Cal is ranked is because I have them in my top 12?

Interesting, though I'm not sure if I agree with the rationale.

I could be wrong, but let's say Florida beat Virginia Tech and West Virginia in the same fashion. Sure Florida might usurp a few No. 1 votes, but I think the critical eye would be turned more towards the Hokies and Mountaineers and they'd get more attention as likely frauds than would-be title contenders, so the benefit Florida would get would be minimal. I don't think Florida would suddenly leapfrog USC and Georgia as a result.

Since it's East Carolina and they're viewed as bubbling up from nowhere, they are darlings, and rightfully so considering what they've done.

It's the interesting dichotomy of voting in a poll. To wit, if you think Clemson is a fraud, then you can't rightly vault Alabama into the top 10 by virtue of a win over a fraud team, right?

East Carolina is in a similar pickle. Their legitimacy goes hand-in-hand with Va. Tech and West Virginia's legitimacy. If the Hokies and Mountaineers roll to double-digit win seasons, then ECU is REALLY legit. If VT and WVA fart around at 7-5 or 6-6, those wins for ECU look far more mundane.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Perhaps, but ECU also faces NC State and Virginia on the road too. If they win those, that's also four wins over BCS opponents - plus UTEP at home and Southern Miss and UCF on the road. that's a pretty solid schedule for a mid-major.

No doubt. Like I said, it'll be fascinating to see if ECU holds up.

    Yep!

Honestly, I'm surprised I was the only one - that and how OSU got a No. 1 vote. Did ya see the (OU-OSU) game?!
ECU has done something no else in the country has done so far this year; beat two ranked teams in successive weeks.
Not USC. Not Florida. Not Georgia - certainly not George (Hi Ga. Southern and Cent. Mich.!). Not nobody has played two formerly ranked teams and won.
ECU beat Va. Tech and then convincingly dismantled WVU. Both teams were ranked.
Based on two weeks of play - and only two weeks of play - I think the claim can be made for a No. 1 vote for ECU. They played the toughest schedule of any 2-0 team in the country.
ECU likely won't be No. 1 next week, muchless the end of the year, but they deserved the vote today.
    The Pirates earned it.
    Somewhere Jeff Blake is smiling.

I agree. I had them at six or seven with THE Ohio State behind them.

What do they have to do to make the top 10?

    Keep winning. Easy as that.

EDIT: Have nothing against voting them into the T10 right now, either. I can see the argument for that, too.

So when they beat lesser teams, they will rise in the standings?

When they are 5-0 and beat Houston or something like that, they will jump over a Big 10 team?

    Exactly!
That was part of my rationale; If they aren't No. 1 now, how can they possibly be No. 1 later, in lieu of a Florida team that ran the table in the SEC or another USC perfect season?
