Penn State NO MATTER WHAT will not beat OSU. No. Way.

  2. Re: 2008 SportsJournalists.com college football poll -- WEEK 2 (9/8), Page 28

    That was my take.
OSU ain't great, but USC is clearly THE team to beat.

What's with all the PSU love? The Liuns haven't played anyone yet. Coastal Car., Syracuse?
They will lose to OSU and probably Wisconsin...

Trying to see a pattern of Penn State choking in big games?

    There is a pattern.
PSU can't beat Lloyd Carr, this year is a first. Wisconsin has ALWAYS played PSU tough, lately (last five years) winning the majority of games. The Lions can't win in the 'Shoe.
Plus, the defense, which was already suspect, is terribly thin.

I'll drop em if they do. Otherwise, they've looked pretty good so far.

This week felt like I was filling out a women's basketball poll.

The first 6-7 teams weren't hard to slot, but the rest of the poll is a whole bunch of uncertainty or certain mediocrity.

I can't remember a time with more parity (other than those few teams at the top).

Good thing you filed your top 25 with a clear, rational mind as opposed to going out of spite, which of course is not the reason we're doing this exercise.

And the next time you want to talk about how last year doesn't matter -- and you're right, it doesn't -- just remember that others here (not me) fill out their preseason top 25 polls based on how teams finished last year or based on prestige (or lack thereof) factors.

And for total disclosure, I dropped KU nine spots to No. 18, behind Ohio State and in front of Wake Forest.

Preseason poll, Oz. Just preseason. (Can't speak for Della, who is the other pollster to make that claim, but that goes for who gets my No. 1 in preseason.)

Once the season begins, there is current evidence to base the polls on and last season isn't as much of a factor.

Buck, I added the word "preseason" to edit for clarity. I agree with what you said.
