Gold was luckier. That little fucker caught so many cards it was like the devil himself was dealing. Varkonyi (like Moneymaker) was perhaps luckier in that he was playing against a bad-ass pro heads up and still won.

  2. Nobody caught cards like Jamie Gold, that was ridiculous.

He's European. You are expecting the American reaction, where our idiots jump and dance and preen, even after just the flop.

Dude acted like he'd been there before. I wish our idiots would take note.

I believe that Raymer said that he never was all in during his entire main event run. He was much more of a pre-flop big bettor, but he was pretty skilled. I loved the Varkoyni-Doyle interaction the year that Moneymaker won. Doyle had zero respect for him.

    Amen.

  6. OK fine, I get your point, but you're 22 and you just won/earn $9 mil and barely crack a smile. C'mon.

No one wins the thing without luck on their side.

And I see your point. He won, and for a couple seconds, he was actually stacking chips. It was funny.

I think he was scared shitless.

There were stretches where Varkonyi was dealt pocket kings, and it was a below-average hand, for him.

    Unbelievable.

I will say this - the level of play at this final table was so much higher than the ones in recent memory. I mean, there were about five players at this final table -- including the final two -- who actually are legitimate players.

I can live with Eastgate winning because, yes he did catch a few cards, but you can tell he is a very, very good player. He played his cards very well and he maximized how much money he could make out of his big hands -- he is a real player, like Greg Raymer and Joe Hachem, who are real players, and unlike Jamie Gold, Jerry Yang, Robert Varkoni and Chris Moneymaker, who are all jokes and have no business being considered anything other than four lottery winners.

The Russian guy who finished second was also an excellent player.

  12. Yes, which is why the heads-up portion shown on TV was such a letdown and so anticlimactic. Wanted to see more
