These ladies appear to like hearing Gill's name in either language...

He has every right be. He's Dion Phaneuf.

I remember Rocky Thompson saying to me 'I say when, I say where, I say who' after he shook off a Rob Skrlac fight.

    And Rocky was no Phaneuf.

You're right he does have every right to, it just show what type of player he is. I'm sure his teammates just love finishing the battles he starts.

Having said all that I think Calgary is going to be very, very good. Sutter is going to hold every player accountable from Iginla to Phaneuf. He'll be the anti Keenan. I think Calgary wins the division, which is considerably weaker than past years.

Nobody ever has to fight. Anyone can walk away. It often takes character to put up your dukes, but sometimes it takes just as much character to say 'no thanks.'

I'm not saying either one applies to Phaneuf. I'm just sayin'.

I guess I'm old school, I just believe in fighting your own battles. If you start something, finish it, don't have a teammate come in and do it for you. If you don't play a chippy, on the edge type of game you should never have to fight and walking away is the preferred option. I'm not saying Phaneuf is the worst, he's not, it's directed more at the Ruutu, Ott and Matt Cooke's of the world.

You can throw Fleury into that list now that he appears to have made a comeback. Blah.

Is Fleury going to start in the Minors?

Friends at the game last Thursday said he is clearly two or three steps behind everybody else. The Sun reports he was in step for last night's game.

I'm not sure how you can get that much faster in three nights.

There's no way you can take Fleury over Backlund - or even Nigel Dawes at this point. He's not a top-6 forward, so why wouldn't you give that spot to someone who will be around for a lot while longer than a 41-year-old.

My guess? He will be offered a spot in Abbotsford, say 'no thank you,' but be able to leave the game on his terms instead of as he did six years ago. Then he'll be able to promote his new book all he wants.

Well if he plays in Abbotsford it's 15 minutes from my house, so I might have to check out the circus. Good thing he's "reformed" because he would sure be disappointed with the night life. Although, blow is readily available.

Eh ... maybe it will make a good publicity stunt for the Abby Babies. I still can't imagine the Lower Mainland being the kind of place that would celebrate a Theo Fleury return to mediocrity, though.
