But is KC actually trying to get a team? I know that's the perception because of the Penguins and (to a lesser extent) Predators flirtations, but it's not like there's an owner front and center like Balsillie to lead the charge to get a team in the Sprint Center. Who, exactly, is trying to persuade the Islanders or Coyotes to move to KC right now, since Boots is in prison?

The fans in KC are being used as leverage again, and they know it. It's not like the Islanders are really going to move to KC -- should the Lighthouse Project fall apart, Wang will probably move to Brooklyn, in the Nets' arena. It's not like the Coyotes are really going to move to KC -- way too many legal issues to even consider them a possibility, especially with Balsillie trying to get his hand on any franchise with the slightest chance to move.

Most likely scenario to me? The NBA's Sacramento Kings move back to KC, which maybe hosts AHL franchise.

Actually, I truly believe that KC will get a team. If the Isles don't get their arena project approved I think it will be them sooner rather than later. The NHL will have a number of potential candidates to move in the next few years. Atlanta, Nashville and Florida come to mind.

Well, in the story I posted, there appears to be somebody. Not that they may be anything more than a group of fansboys who'd like to see hockey in K-C.

Tavares’ absence didn’t surprise Paul McGannon, president of NHL21, the grassroots organization supporting the search for an NHL team for Kansas City.

“This is part of the deal,” McGannon said. “Preseason games … they’ll set a roster, and we have no control who the management decides to bring in. This is like when the Royals had a road exhibition game, and George Brett didn’t make the trip.

“Maybe we’ll see him when we have our team someday.”

Grassroots organization. It's not like McGannon's someone like Balsillie who could easily put together the money to buy a team, pay the relocation fee and move a franchise. There's no theoretical big-money owner in place there.

Yea, I purposely didn't make an editorial comment with the original post to not taint the responses much.

Lidstrom's a bit low on the list, correct?

How is Brophy viewed in Canada?
