I just heard the Winter Olympics start this Friday. Will there be ice hockey?

    According to Mirtle on Twitter

almela has refractured broken nose and lost several teeth. Will not return tonight, but will be OK.

Can you imagine that happening to a baseball player and the team says, he'll be OK?

Cosmo: when it comes to Pens/Caps -- some very intelligent people lose their marbles. I can't believe how personally people take those games.

EDIT: I just read that column. I like Steinberg's stuff, but this comes across as whiny.

I love hearing Emrick call a game, and I think Pierre McGuire does a pretty good job in those games. Milbury always kind of strikes me as a doof. I'm not sure how he ever coached teams in the NHL.

And that entry may have been a bit of a reach, but I chalk it up to Steinberg having limited ways to produce any copy. I mean, it's not like many of us can really get around and go anywhere right now. Hell there hasn't been a single motorized vehicle to travel my street since Friday, and I know Steinberg doesn't live that far from me. And public transportation remains shut down in a lot of places, including around me.

Yeah, I offered it up without comment because I don't necessarily know how much of what he's saying that I agree with, save for some of the Milbury stuff. As a Caps fan, I didn't even give some of the stuff in there a second thought, like their slurp job on Crosby in the first period. It was a well deserved slurp job. Dude had a hell of a period and scored two pretty goals.

    Emrick calls a good game

McGuire's the Tim McCarver of hockey. Loves the sound of his own voice, repeats the same point incessantly, and generally acts like the smartest guy in the room. His "monster" shtick on TSN is pathetic and up here we have to listen to ten days of his nonsense when he does the WJC with Gord Miller.

We get him once a week. I suppose in small doses it's not so bad. Not the best I ever heard either, but not bad. And somewhat genius compared to Milbury, who I swear he tries to set up to say something profound, only to watch him fall on his face in stupidity.

And speaking of Milbury.... on the same day the Post talks about all the innovative ways the Caps are befriending new media:

As annoying as the "monster" schtick is, I've heard that it is now driven more by TSN than anything else. He's not the only one with the schtick, there is a long history of it, hell when the CBC had the CFL Chris Wallby had Wallby's Warrior. Madden had his bloody horse trailer. and there's many more. apparently they can't just do player of the game anymore.

But McGuire definitely does over do it, particularly when he forms a crush on a player.

The best rip on McGuire I heard came a couple of years ago when he was going on and on about I think it was Brent Burns -- World CHampionships maybe? -- the play-by-play guy at one point goes, "hey Pierre, I think Dion's going to get jealous!" or something along those lines, referring to McGuire's ultimate man-crush Dion Phaneuf. McGuire, to his credit, didn't miss a beat and followed with "No Dion still knows he's No. 1"
