It's between Myers and Duchene and as much as it pains me to say it, Myers will win. Tavares is not up for discussion.

I'm not a big fan of fifth-year pros being up for this award, but I don't think you can ignore Jimmy Howard.

Yeah I gotta go Myers then Duchene then you probably have to look at Howard as 35 wins for a rookie goalie are hard to ignore.

Don't think the Oilers are going to complete the improbable season sweep of Detroit. 15 minutes in and they are being dominated and trail 2-0. Which is OK I guess as an Oilers loss guarantees them the basement.

He had less than 10 NHL games played before this year.

He's also started 25 straight games.

    I
I understand that. I'm still not a fan of 26-year-old, five-year pros being eligible for the Calder.

Oh and Beef, your Oilers showed a little bit of life in the second. Still trail 4-2 though.

Understood, but top goaltenders often spend a lot of time in the minors before matriculating to the NHL, while top forwards tend to go straight from junior to the NHL. Defensemen often have a year or two in the minors before coming up.

The Blackhawks are so awful right now.

I had plans tonight and had to stop watching after the first period. Quite impressed actually by the comeback, despite it slipping away late on a controversial goal (I only saw one shot of it and it looked close to a high stick but ruled not, not going to make a stink over it they are tough to call even on replay because of the camera angle and is rarely in the same frame as the net). The Oil have played well the last couple of weeks, much better at least than the previous three months.
The defence has played much better of late with Gilbert rediscovering his game, Aaron Johnson playing surprisingly well and Ryan Whitney has played very well in the few games I've been able to watch. The goaltending has also been a lot better of late with JDD and Dubnyk finally settling in at the NHL level.
However, they're still young and still have a lot of holes that need to be filled, especially up front and depth wise defensively, but they have been playing better of late which is good to see after a shit season.
