Stupid Dallas Stars making me cry tonight with the possible final game at home for Modano and Lehtinen (and Turco, but he's not in the same category).

It was a pretty fitting ending, if it's that, and I don't think either Modano or Lehtinen has decided for sure yet. Modano tied the game on a verrrrry close to played with a high stick goal in the third, Lehtinen and Modano assisted on the first Dallas goal, and Turco stopped two Anaheim shooters in the shootout while Modano, then Lehtinen scored for the win.

Stupid stupid stupid emotional attachment to childhood heroes. *goes off to cry in a corner*

    Right - wasn't thinking properly.

You couldn't write a much better script for a final game for those three.

The ovation for Modano at the last TV timeout gave me goosebumps. Lotta wet eyes in the building at that point.

Then Turco promptly gives up the go-ahead goal on power play.

Which set the stage for Modano's game tyer. There was no way in hell that goal was going to be overturned. The fans would have burned the building down.

Regardless they should get a pretty good player.

Thought you were going to mention the fact Sid the Kid became the third youngest player in NHL history to hit the 500-point plateau -- behind 1) Gretzky and 2) Lemieux. Also appeared to have scored his 50th goal of the season only to have it changed after the game and awarded to Guerin. Still leads the league with 49, however, and scored four points. One heck of a way to close out the Igloo's regular season life -- just the playoffs remain.

The Stars' last game this season is in Minnesota. I hope the fans there also pay him the proper tribute, considering he's the last Minnesota North Star still active in the NHL.

I hear they've got something planned for postgame. Sounds like it will be really cool.

I'm sure it will go just fine. From the following link:

"Two years ago, the Wild held a little ceremony before a regular-season game against Dallas to honor Modano's contribution to U.S. hockey. Modano actually was worried about how he'd be received by the fans at Xcel. He shouldn't have worried. The 18,568 in attendance gave him nothing but love."

    And...

Nick Kypreos reports Rod Brind'Amour did not take the trip from Carolina to Boston, because he wanted his last NHL game to be at home.

Assuming Modano retires, as Brind'Amour is doing, how many guys will be left in the NHL who played in the 1980s?

Mark Recchi, if he returns, will be one. If Chris Chelios makes it back, that's two. Who else is there?

Good for Roddy. Whalercanes can play one more kid for the season finale. Given the way he handled the transition of the "C" to Eric Staal, I can only hope management can acknowledge a simple request.
