Was just talking about this with a friend. If Sadler's leading when the rain comes, guarandamntee it they wait longer than 16 minutes to call that race off.

Maybe this will get NASCAR to reconsider the Lucky Dog -- the dumbest rule in sports by miles over football's horse collar tackle.

Then again ... it's NASCAR, so maybe not.

I don't know a lot about racing, but if that was unintentional, then I have to surmise that Jr. cannot drive.

I don't necessarily think the free pass (or whatever it's called) is a bad rule. Racing to the line on a yellow could be just as bad. I just think NASCAR needs to sanction drivers for being stupid, and stupid is what Junior was last night.

Lucky dog rule isn't going anywhere. Its roots were in safety but now it's sanctioned silliness. Bigger problem, as someone said, is those double-file restarts. NASCAR knows full well that they stink, having announced last week that single-file restarts will be used for the final 20 laps of a race instead of 10.

Got no problem with double-file restarts, but it's long past time to put lapped cars behind the lead-lap cars.

Earnhardt should have tapped the brake pedal briefly once Vickers forced him onto the apron before trying to merge back into traffic. Not like he had anybody with him who was going to spin him out.

Agree with the others about Junior needing a new crew chief. Junior and Alan Gustafson would have made a good team.

How 'bout freezing the field when the yellow comes out? There's nothing in racing that says anyone has to get a lap back. If you're a lap down, you're a lap down, tough shit.

I mean, I saw Jeff Gordon get something like five Lucky Dogs in one race at Indy a few years ago and he finished in contention on the lead lap. Completely asinine.

  8. Not speaking to this race, cause Jr. screwed this one up all by himself, but I hoped when he landed at Hendrick it would be without his crew chief.
Gordon came from three laps down one year to win at Martinsville.

Three laps at Martinsville is a whole different world from even three laps at Indy.

I believe he earned at least one of those laps back the old fashioned way, by passing and staying in front of the leader.

Exactly. You can make up laps on a short track (it's hard, but it can be done). You're not going to make up many laps the real way at Indy.

The accident is getting all the attention, but that whole team should get roasted for missing their pit stall. Junior's explanation about all the teams' signs all being pink and looking the same was beyond awful.
