Because when he left he knew he still was. He wanted to go out on top. He wanted to leave on top of his game. And he could have. I don't fault the guy (who could turn down the cash if you still have the drive and talent) but anyone who didn't see this coming was blind.

I told Jim Utter this afternoon the people in the media center should get a cake for the fifth anniversary of his retirement.

Probably won't make a blip on the radar anywhere but here. Diehards may remember his brief career.
    RIP Kevin Grubb

Truly sad. As I posted on my facebook page, I hope Kevin finds the peace now that he struggled so hard to find in life.

Most recent commenter on that story claims to be a friend of the Grubb family and said the Kevin Grubb committed suicide.

I interviewed him once, and followed his brief career afterward (along with Wayne, who I think is now on the other side of the pit wall). Kevin had loads of potential. Just couldn't get rid of the demons, I guess.

    Subject: Henrico Police Apparent Suicide

On Wednesday May 6, 2009 at approximately 11:30 PM the Henrico Police
responded to the Alpine Motel located in the 7000 block of Brook Road. The
motel management had found a male that was deceased in one of the rooms.
Subsequent investigation and autopsy revealed that the victim listed below
died from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. There were
no indications of any drug use found inside the room. A toxicology test was
performed on the body, however it may take up to six weeks to get the
    results back.
    Victim:
    Grubb, Kevin Stokes
    Male DOB: 4-19-78

    Thanks,

Here at the Indy media center, it has not gone unnoticed that the 6 p.m. presser is at the same time as the end of Pole Day qualifications.

Scott Speed is apparently replacing Nemechek tonight, but I just can't see Front Row Joe doing drugs.
