Wow. I've seen dirt tracks look like that, but certainly not superspeedways.

The engine that earned Carl Long a 12-race suspension and $200K fine was in fact over the limit of 358 cubic inches.

His engine, which he alleges he bought from a company that supplies several Cup teams was measured at ...

    358.17 cubic inches.

To me, the punishment doesn't fit the crime.

This is typical NASCAR crap. "Hey, lets show how we are cracking down by nailing this guy that can't make a race anyway."

Rules are black and white, gentlemen. At least in that case.

Fining a team like that $200,000 is brutal. They're just trying to make him go away entirely.

Get back to me when a Hendrick or Roush team gets a 12-race suspension.

Get back to me when an established team is stupid enough to try to run a larger-than-regulation engine.

This isn't a matter of shifting restrictor plates or leaving the fuel cover off. This is a BIG no-no, always has been. Big-money teams aren't stupid enough to do it.

About those DIS pics ... the ABC affiliate in Orlando reposted them on its web site. DIS demanded that the TV station take them down. TV station shrugged and said, "Nuh-uh." Good on 'em.

I suspect the DIS brass are desperate to ensure that people won't think they won't be anything other than perfectly ready to go July 1. No idea how much of a cleanup they have ahead or how widespread the floodwaters are up toward the Fan Zone and concession areas of the infield.

I read somewhere that DIS wasn't posting pictures out of respect for the homeowners around them that have lost everything, because the water at DIS hasn't caused any actual major damage to the track.
