I wouldn't say Richmond has more "freak" winners. I'm partial, of course, but the drivers love Richmond. It consistently gets votes as their favorite track. It's a great place to see a race, it allows for passing without letting the cars get too spaced out.

Plus, "colored" still flies there, so they can get their fill. [/FamilyGuy]

I just saw where Junior has one win in the last 124 races. I don't follow NASCAR closely, but is he ever gonna win again? And is his status as the fans' favorite ever gonna be in jeopardy? NASCAR can't like it that its most popular driver seems to have lost it, can it?

He never really had it. He's always been more hype than substance.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but he doesn't have very many non-restrictor plate victories, and he got those when NASCAR cheated for him DEI's cars were dominant at Daytona and Talladega.

Given that popularity derives from success in every other sport known to man, his status just seems so odd.

Riding the coattails of your old man will do that.

Actually, that's not fair at all. His fans ride the coattails of Dale Jr.'s old man.

Wonder how Kyle Busch enjoys finishing eight points out of the Chase, while Brian Vickers ended up with the 12th and final playoff berth?

Let's ask these random people how they feel about it.

I've got to figure Kyle will want to win finish this season with more wins than any other driver. Should make for an interesting Chase. The guy is a grade-A shit disturber. He's going to race to win and probably end up taking out at least one person in contention.

  9. Why wouldn't he race to win?
Why wouldn't anybody - Chase contender or not?

Faster, maybe, but it's hard to consider riding around for two hours "more racing."

They oughta have it at Darlington.

I think you answered your own question.
You get a year like this, with a dozen guys running for eight spots, and a little unpredictability makes it exciting. Who wants to see Jimmie Johnson win by four car lengths? Or Matt Kenseth eke out a fuel mileage victory? You get some good racing at Richmond; maybe a wreck or two that shakes things up; a track with a history of night racing, so it's easy to throw it into primetime; and a short-track, where guys can be a little more aggressive than they can on the 1 1/2-mile tracks.
It's more exciting and more marketable. Richmond may have had the good fortune to be Race No. 26 on the schedule when they started the Chase, but it's a good pick for the spot.

Time for the annual debris caution to be thrown on the points standings so we can jumble up the field and contrive a close finish.
