Changing gears, the Charlotte buyouts thread on the J-Board made me wonder...will Poole's old job still be filled for 2010? Any leader in the clubhouse?

See, if I had been referring to The King there, there'd have been no "so-called" designation, nor would there have been rolling eyes. :)

Jim Utter would make a lot of sense if he wants it. Can't imagine the Observer can even think about a sports section without the NASCAR beat. That and the Carolina Panthers beats shouldn't be compromised, but McClatchy might not necessarily agree.

IMO, Jr. is safe due to his popularity and the cash he brings in. But if he another year anything like this year, I don't think he'll want to stay. Wouldn't be surprised to see him team up with Smoke. Or his own team. Or RCR, where I still think he should have gone for '08.

    Backfill Dept. ...

Sports car racer J.C. France, grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France, was arrested Oct. 8 after getting caught street racing against his roommate in Daytona Beach. Russell Van Richmond---France's roommate/race opponent/half-brother---was charged with DUI, possession of crack cocaine, possession of hydrocodone and threatening a police officer after allegedly telling a Daytona Beach police officer: "I want your commander now. I am a France. Do you know what that means? We own this city."

J.C. France is the son of Jim France, founder of the Grand Am series, and first cousin of NASCAR head Brian France. He was charged with DUI and possession of crack cocaine; according to police, when pulled over he had to use his green Lamborghini to support himself when ordered to get out.

Richmond also allegedly told a Daytona Beach police captain, "Do you know who I am? You are done. I am gonna have your job. This is the biggest mistake ever. You are so done in Daytona." Then they searched him and found crack in his pants pocket, at which time he allegedly made his last statement, something that the newspaper could not print in its entirety.

Brumos Racing replaced France with Hurley Haywood for the final race of the Grand Am season after Grand Am (which NASCAR also owns) suspended France the day of the arrest.

The real gearheads may remember J.C. France's fight during a Grand Am race in Mexico City back in 2006. And it seems like somebody should tell Richmond that he's not a France, although his half-brother is.

Is it just me or does Jimmie Johnson have this thing locked? So much for The Chase bringing drama.

Kurt Busch was refreshingly honest in the postrace show ...
"You still think you have a chance at this?"
    "No."

Watch Talladega until the first big wreck. If Johnson's not in it, Chase over. It's barely breathing now.

  11. If JJ finishes Talladega its over and the only thing I care about is Homestead, hoping Gordon pulls off a victory to become the only active dirver with a win at every track on the circuit.

Kyle Busch and Joey Logano are hosting WWE Monday Night Raw tonight. Kyle is insulting the Buffalo fans, telling them they haven't been to the playoffs since Hulk Hogan's prime and they might as well be singing Oh Canada. Who knew Kyle Busch would like being the bad guy?
