So you were one of those who made my life miserable on sports desks. Put NASCAR up front, above the fold - every day, even on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when there's no news worth headlining a section.

At least fans of many of the other sports understand that theirs isn't the end-all, be-all of existence. And they don't make posts like this that scream "woe is NASCAR. Everyone is against us. We're really, really great. You just don't see that." Ugh ...

This doesn't sound like someone who really looks at the big picture, but rather as a big NASCAR fan. That's fine - and understand that SEs can't simply print NASCAR sections and bury the NBA, college basketball, NHL, spring training previews and their local coverage on Page 8 strictly to give you your fill of all NASCAR all the time. Doesn't work like that. Buy one of the specialty publications if you don't like the supposed lack of coverage offered by your local sports section.

Again, I don't like that the writing duo from Yahoo! is gone, either. But don't turn this into the usual "you just don't like NASCAR" junk.

No, I don't. And this is a NASCAR discussion thread, not a blog.

Um, no. It's not a blog, it's a thread on a message board. Most of the people posting on this thread are not people on the NASCAR beat. In fact, I haven't seen somebody on the NASCAR beat posting on either this or the 2008 thread in many months. I daresay most of them are copy editors.

No disrespect, countrygirl, but all of your posts are Yahoo!-related. Did you take a hit on the stock or something?

Seems pretty anti-Fryer too, or maybe just anti-female reporting from the pit, per the lizard comment.

Any second now, Tony Stewart's going to give an interview in which he shreds Goodyear.

TONY STEWART, NO. 14 OFFICE DEPOT / OLD SPICE IMPALA SS quotes from accident involving himself and teammate Ryan Newman, No. 39 U.S. Army Impala SS, during final practice for the Daytona 500:

TELL US ABOUT THE INCIDENT THAT NOW FORCES YOU TO A BACK-UP CAR AS WELL AS YOUR TEAMMATE, RYAN NEWMAN AGAIN
“Ah, it’s just a Goodyear right rear tire. So, same thing everybody has been talking about all week. Same stuff that we always talk about every year is the failures that Goodyear has. I think that’s part of their marketing campaign. The more we talk about it, the more press they get. I think they forget that it’s supposed to be in a good way, not a bad way.”

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DAYTONA 500 AS FAR AS YOUR BACK-UP, THE BUDWEISER SHOOTOUT CAR
“Yeah, I just hope I get out in it, really. We haven’t really gotten any time in it except when it was really cold and in the dark, so we’ll see.”

MORE ABOUT THE RIGHT REAR TIRE ON RYAN NEWMAN’S CAR
It’s just frustrating because the gold and blue down there are the cause of another deal. I’m just so tired of talking about Goodyear it’s ridiculous. I’m just over it.”

A COUPLE OF TIRES RECALLED YESTERDAY, ENOUGH?
“Apparently not enough. Apparently this is their marketing strategy to get press. I’m just tired of talking about them; tired of them being an issue. And us talking about them right now isn’t going to change anything because it falls on deaf ears and that won’t change.”

HOW MUCH DOES THIS AFFECT YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING THE 500?
“I don’t know, rocket scientist. I’m sitting here with a back-up car, what do you think?

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO THIS BACK-UP CAR TO GET IT READY?
“I don’t know. Talk to Darian Grubb. We’ve got a lot of work to do. I’m ticked right now. I’m not happy, I’m not cordial, I’m not nice, I’m not anything right now, and I shouldn’t be. If it was because two guys wrecked and it was a driver’s mistake, that’s one thing. But a manufacturer that has the sole deal here, they don’t have any competition and they can’t give us something to keep us from having problems like this. So I don’t know. I’m just amazed at how much everybody kisses their butts right now.”

Love it. It's not a true tire catastrophe until Smoke's in it.

You'd think Goodyear would find a way to get him the most pristine tires in the joint. Though those would probably blow up too.

That was one heck of a final lap in the Nationwide race. KyBush was right up Stewart's pipe and bumping the crap out of him, while Edwards tried sneaking around the right side.

  12. Old Tony can drive. Busch tried like hell to move him - one way or the other - by bumping him in the corner. Tony's an SOB, but man can he drive.
I'll root him over Busch, little cocksucker, any day.
    Can't wait for tomorrow!
