Not sure this one measures up to 2007, but my fanboy bias toward Francis for his days with the Penguins maybe coloring my opinion there.

How I wish I were Bryan Murray so I could tell Barry and McAlpine that their client will be a Black Ace to start the next season - bag-skate practices and MAYBE an appearance on the fourth line once every four or five games - and the only reason he'd even be with the big club at all is because sending him to the AHL would deny a lineup spot to a guy who actually deserves to play for Binghamton.

According to the Vancouver Province, Marion Gaborik is one of the newest Lower Mainland homeowners.

    JC?

Screw that. I'm enjoying the City of Champions thing too much. :)

Won't be Boston. They have no cap room and they're trying to structure things so they can re-sign Phil Kessel.

Won't be Detroit either. For the same reasons as Boston, except substitute Hossa.

Will probably get "flamed" (pardon the pun) for saying this --- what else is new? --- but I think the idea of Brent Sutter coaching the Flames for next season is a terrible deal.

The guy had a legitimate contract with the New Jersey Devils. Unlike, say, Dave Tippett, he wasn't fired. If he doesn't like New Jersey or doesn't want to coach at the NHL level, fine, resign. Go back to Red Deer. But don't turn around three weeks later and take the same job with a rival team. It reeks of cronyism.

To the casual observer, it looks like: (1) Darryl Sutter fired Mike Keenan, perhaps knowing all along he could talk brother into coming to Calgary. (2) Brent Sutter suddenly up and resigns in New Jersey not long after the Calgary job opens, maybe with the idea he'd rather coach there. (3) The two conveniently arrange a deal. Sorry, but it looks like a huge setup.

If I'm the Devils, I would be demanding major compensation. If I'm the league office, I want an explanation that there was no behind-the-scenes dealing going on. At the very least, this just LOOKS bad.

    Mark,

No one will disagree with you. But, the NHL does not allow compensation for front-office employees/coaches. Devils could have forced Brent to sit one year, but didn't.

What is interesting is that the league did not punish Darryl for saying his top three candidates were under contract with other teams.
