OK, that was my understanding, that you can't just bail out on a contract, run out the clock and then show up again when you find a deal you like better.

Me neither. But a serious, serious coup for Calgary IF he signs. And if you're Florida, it's a yard-sale price but suppose it beats just letting him walk away.

Still, Calgary with Bouwmeester AND if Dion Phaneuf proves that last season was a fluke? Not to mention if Olli Jokinen and Jarome Iginla produce like they did down the stretch in the last season? Sheesh ... AMac might be unbearable. :D ;D

Whalercanes sign Jussi Jokinen to a two-year deal, worth about $3.4 in total.

Now to work on getting Chad LaRose and especially Erik Cole back into Whalercanes sweaters. LaRose shouldn't be terribly expensive ... the trouble could be Cole, the same sort of trouble I suspect is why Cole was shipped to Edmonton last offseason.

Well, some good news, anyway ...

Penguins are attempting not to completely bust up their team - Craig Adams took a pay cut to stay with the Pens, and then Bill Guerin signed a one-year deal.

Of course, that was the easy part on the Pens front. Now is when things get tricky.

Edit: And Guerin apparently took a pretty healthy pay cut, as well. Being reported as a 1 yr./$2M deal.

Yep, what to do about Scuderi and Fedotenko.

Well, in a world where Jeff Finger is pulling down $3.5M a year, you wish Scuderi the best wherever he lands. He'd have to give up an awful lot of $$$ to stay in Pittsburgh.

    Beef,

Do you want to see Heatley wind up in Edmonton? If so, what would you be willing to give up in a trade?

    :D

Have been in the dark since Friday afternoon, at a ball tournament in very small town B.C. and camping. Rolled into a breakfast cafe this morning and grabbed a copy of the Sun.

Saw Bouwmeester on the cover and darn near shit a brick. We knew the rumours were out there ... hell, we talked about this happening at the trade deadline.

I'll be damned if Sutter doesn't pull the trigger on this signing. He has $10M room on the cap but will have to sign someone for Cammalleri's spot. Adam Pardy is on his way out of town and that's a damned shame.

Neither Bertuzzi nor Aucoin have been contacted for negotiations yet ... at least as far as I know, but I haven't caught up on all the news since I left town.

That's what I'll do while I'm spinning five loads of campfire clothes through the laundry tomorrow.

I'm conflicted on this. At one end there are only so many 40+ goal scorers out there and the Oilers haven't had one in forever. On the other end there is the baggage. I would almost rather sit and wait to see if Hossa becomes available, or in a dream world to see if Jagr can be bought out in Russia and then lured back across the pond. Regardless, the Oil aren't exactly swimming in cap space and someone would have to be on the move in some form (Penner burried on the farm?).

Now if they did swing the deal for Heatley, I could see it being in the realm of something like Tom Gilbert, Patrick O'Sullivan, (one of Jordan Eberle, Riley Nash, Linus Omark, Robbie Schremp, Gilbert Brule), and a 1st and third round pick.

It's a lot to give up, but if what the Sens are looking for in return is two roster players, a top end prospect and some picks ala what Philly gave up for Pronger, the package would probably look like this. If any package from the Oilers includes either Cogliano or Gagner I say no and walk away. There is plenty of value in the above package (a soon to be all-star defenceman, a should be top six forward, a top prospect and the picks). It is also a close swap in salary although I think the Oilers are still taking on a little extra. I can't imagine the Sens getting a better offer from the Rangers and I'm not sure what San Jose would be offering in return.

In build up to Free agency, this is what TSN is reporting:

The Oilers have made a $3mil, one year offer to re-sign Roloson, while letting Ales Kottalik walk/skate

The Canucks have made a last ditch effort to sign the Sedins

And the Flames are busy trying ti sign Bouwmeester
