  1. Who the hell ever knows what LA is thinking?

Lombardi tried to get Smyth at the deadline, but the Avs winger would not waive his no-trade.

He believes that Smyth is an excellent teacher for his young player, a guy who doesn't have a hard shot or natural talent, but a hard worker who did everything he could to succeed. Make sense to me.

Getting rid of Preissing's contract is a big plus for LA.

Great deal for the Penguins, getting him for $550,000 cheaper than they did a year ago.

Wow. After a quiet day or two the FA market has heated up again.

Alexi Kovalev has signed with the Ottawa Senators for two years and $10 million.

The Maple Leafs have added more muscle to their blue-line (because they needed it apparently) by signing Francois Beauchemin to a three-year deal at $3.8 million per. This is a far better deal than his one for Komiserek. much better defenceman. You Leaf fans will like him a lot.

Oh and the Colorado Avalanche have signed the always awesome Andrew Raycroft, no details have been released. I wouldn't want to admit to paying the guy either.

No, the Canucks signed Raycroft for 500 grand. He'll get to play 8 to ten games behind Luongo.

TSN had said no deatails were available. So if it's for 500,000 thats not horrible, but I have to wonder if Curtis Sanford wasn't availble for the same -- a good locker room guy who can handle playing once every two or three weeks who's already familiar with the team and has no real dreams of grandeur. Yeah he wasn't great when Loungo went down last year, but if they think they are going to get much more out of Raycroft they're crazy.

they don't. The team needs goalies, if Luongo gets hurt it will be Schneider who steps in.
