2009 NHL off-season trades, rumours, draft thread

  1. Hopefully, the Thrashers can lock up a long-term deal with Kovalchuk and make it an even weaker class.

This relates to nothing, but Johnny Depp's new movie Public Enemies shows him watching the move Manhattan Melodrama shortly before his death, and there's a brief clip in it of what I guess must be a Rangers game. Clark Gable then meets up with someone in the Garden restroom and says "What's so important it's taking me away from the game?"

Does Kovalev signing with the Sens mean a deal for Heatley is imminent, or do the two things have nothing to do with each other?

Report I heard said Melnyk told Murray to get him if he could and they would deal with Heatley later on. Not sure what the deadline is to get the team under the cap but I would assume its opening night of the schedule.

It certainly gives them some leverage because it takes the pressure off of them, knowing they have someone who can slide into the top spot without Healtley. There is still a lot of talk that the Oilers are not out of the running, that Heatley hasn't officially said no to them just that he isn't satisfied that they are the only option. However, other teams are not exactly lining up because of the asking price. So the Oilers deal is apparently still on the table as a last resort for Heatley. it will eventually dawn on him that his two choices are returning to the Senators where he has publically said he wants out of or accepting a trade to Edmonton, a place not exactly high on his destination list, but apparently on it. As Tambellini said after the deadline passed, changing places is a big decision that shouldn't be made lightly and takes time. Whatever. The Sens can now let him sit up in the pressbox without being too far behind interms of talent on the ice.

And the Leafs win the Gustavsson sweepstakes.

Half dozen teams were after this Swedish goalie, nicknamed The Monster.

So, it looks like the Leafs have someone who might be able to stop the puck, a pretty good defense and some grit and tough guys

Can someone tell me who the hell is going to score goals?

Didn't realize he was hurt. Did he damage the shoulder lifting the Cup?

More like from carrying the team on his shoulders in Game 7. :)

Agent and Pens GM Ray Shero said Talbot played through it for a while. Certainly didn't show in his play, nor in his partying in the days after the clinching win.

    Adrenaline and guts.

Torn labrum in the left shoulder.....he's a left-handed shot.....makes his two goals in that game even more huge than we originally thought.

Depending on the severity of the tear, and if he could be out until December then it was probably quite severe, what he did in Game 7 is Bobby Baun-esque.....the stuff of legends.
