    Mr F,

I have a beer that says two years from now he'll be looking for an extension.

this makes this contract the worst signed this offseason. you'd think an organization would no the CBA before handing out this kind of money.

What if they buy him out - still $5M?

Flyers are trying to fight this one; we'll see how it goes.

    Sea Bass,

The Flyers could buy out Pronger, but, according to the CBA, if you sign an over-35 player, his cap figure does not come off the books for the duration of the contract. So, the $5 million would last on the payroll until 2016-17. That includes retirement, or burying someone in the minors. None of that works on those over-35 deals. The league was tired of "retirement contracts" and attacked them in the new CBA via this route.

Did you notice that "Saku Koivu" is an intermittent trending topic this afternoon on Twitter?

Thanks - yeah, I knew it applied to retirement (i.e. why Sakic had been on one-year deals since the lockout) but wasn't sure about other scenarios. Because of that rule, I could never figure out why Gillis offered Sundin a two-year deal at $10M per.

and Gillis must thank god everyday that Sundin turned that down.
