Kelowna has clinched a spot in the final with a 6-4 win over Drummondville - Jamie Benn scored five points, including four goals, among them the game-tying and game-winning markers. He's a Dallas Stars prospect.

Here, though, is the real shock - Drummondville went from 11 wins and 33 points last season to 54 and 112 this season. Talk about a major turnaround!

Next up for the unbeaten Rockets - the winless Windsorites.

Apparently Benn had an empty net in the final seconds. He took a rink-length shot at a fifth goal but hit the post. A fifth goal would have tied the Memorial Cup record for goals in a game. The record holder? Bruce Boudreau, Toronto Marlboros, 1975. :)

That angle was kind of weird, wasn't it? Though the whole, "Tavares doesn't win, but is OK with it" angle might have to do with the fact that Hodgson is in the AHL playoffs and wasn't available to comment.

And there are rumours that Pierre Lacroix is going to offer Patrick Roy the positions of both GM & coach of the Avs.

Ruefrontenac.com — a website run by locked-out journalists from Le Journal de Montreal — reported Sunday that Avs president Lacroix has offered Roy the jobs of coach and general manager, and that Roy wants to hire Sylvain Lefebvre and Guy Boucher as his assistant coaches.

That has potential disaster written all over it. When Sakic retires, the Avs may rival the Islanders for futility, not to mention attendance.

It's difficult if not impossible these days for someone with experience to handle those two positions. However, this is apparently a case of upping the ante--the Habs are interested in Roy as a coach.

Word on the street has Brent Sutter as the next coach of the Calgary Flames.

Good grief. The Avs are already anchored to the bottom of the ocean floor and they're looking for ... ... ... another anchor?

    Wow.

Poor Avs. Roy might be an excellent coach, but they need a really, really, really good and experienced GM to get the right new blood in, not a first-timer.

If Lacroix was smart, he'd just take the GM job over again to get things stable for the next couple of years.

Agreed it is not a good idea to have one person as coach and GM, especially a rookie. I have long wondered which would be a better fit for Roy: Montreal or Colorado. Obvious ties to both, but I suspect the pressure in Montreal would be great --- maybe too great. In Colorado, they know they are in a rebuilding phase and are going to suck for a few years first.

Sheesh, I suggested the same thing more than a month ago and everyone said it was crazy.
