    Some crappy matches:

Hart Foundation vs. Bolsheviks (lasted abut 15 seconds)

Rocky Maivia vs. The Sultan (IC title was actually on the line)

Fabulous Moolah vs. Velvet McIntyre (went about a minute, weird ending).

Pretty hard to top Jake the Snake vs. Rick "the Model" Martel in a blindfold match at WM6, especially when it was pretty evident they could see through the blindfolds they were wearing.

I'd also like to mention Undertaker vs. the Big Bossman at WM15 in the only Hell in a Cell match in Wrestlemania history. Terrible match capped off by the Brood coming down from the rafters to "lynch" Bossman from the top of the cell after the match. Oh, and Bossman was on Raw the next night.

That was the match that sprung to my mind along with Lesnar-Goldberg.

Akebono vs. Big Show and The Ultimate Warrior vs. HHH are also up there.

Lesnar-Goldberg doesn't belong on this list, if for no other reason than because of the crowd's work during the whole match. What a bizarre atmosphere. I don't know if it'll ever be matched.

Someone explain to me what went down. How could two guys like that put in such a crappy match?

    A few factors:

    1. Both were on their way out of the company, so I'm thinking they might have been in "mail it in" mode to begin with.

    2. The crowd KNEW they were leaving and decided to let them have it the entire match, which probably threw them off their game.

    3. Both had been booked as unstoppable monster-type power guys. Neither was going to get pushed around too much, and in order to get a good match, you need guys willing to absorb a beating. Neither guy was going to sell for the other one, and it just killed the fluidity of the match.

It was honestly one of the highlights of WrestleMania 20, which is pretty damn boring besides the classic Triple Threat main event (HBK vs. HHH vs. Benoit might be the best triple threat match of all time) and a lengthy great Eddie vs. Angle WWE title match (with an equally fantastic finish). It was epic because both men were so hated and the guest ref was so much over than either of them. They visibly looked confused, wondering what to do next, and seemed to never expect the terrible reactions they received from the New York crowd.

They hyped up Lesnar vs. Goldberg for months with a pretty strong storyline - I think it went back to the Survivor Series. It was supposed to be a dream match of two physically intense phenoms with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the guest ref. Austin comes out on a four wheeler to a huge pop. Lesnar comes out, then Goldberg.

Crowd morphs from a Goldberg chant quickly after his entrance ends and the bell rings into a deafening "You Sold Out!" chant directed at Lesnar, as reports hit the Internet a week before the show that Lesnar was leaving the company for the NFL.

You could tell the announcers didn't know what to do - Lawler quipped "the sellout chant from a sellout crowd." The crowd then breaks into another deafening chant, this time "na na, hey hey goodbye!" and during all of this, Lesnar and Goldberg are standing there soaking it in for over three minutes, not even wrestling. JR finally addresses the chant about the rumors of Lesnar leaving for the NFL. Repeated closeup of Lesnar shows him visibly heated. The crowd, waiting for some action but not getting anything, breaks into an "Austin!" chant and you see a smile break out on Stone Cold's face.

Finally, they tie up in the middle of the ring - for over half a minute. They break it off and the crowd just boos the shit out of the match. They circle each other in the ring for another minute or so and tie up again for way too long, with the announcers trying to sell it, but the crowd keeps booing. (Lawler says something like "These fans here at Madison Square Garden are getting antsy, they want somebody to get hurt - and frankly I do too.") That's about when "this match sucks!" and "Boring" chant begins, after almost 10 minutes of nothing happening.

Once (FINALLY!) the match begins, it's OK action. They start fighting on the outside and the crowd breaks into a huge "Goldberg sucks!" chants. Lawler tries to justify it by saying each of the shows (RAW and SD!) have their own audiences and this was inter-promotional or some bullshit like that. Announcers are trying their hardest to call this, which makes it all that funnier. The fact is, Goldberg stopped appearing on TV months before the show because his contract dictated he worked his max number of appearances, with his final showing at WrestleMania 20. In the final month or so of buildup, the match was built around Austin vs. Lesnar. A dull sleeper hold in the ring breaks out a "Hogan" chant - don't ask me why, I think I heard there was a Hogan impersonator posing. Another "this match sucks chant."

FINALLY, Goldberg wins after spear/jackhammer. Lesnar staggers up to his feet and the crowd begins their loud "Na na na na..." chant again. Lesnar goes face to face with Austin, he turns and gives the middle finger to the crowd. He flicks off Austin, who stuns him and the crowd goes crazy. Goldberg enters the ring, Austin gets tossed some beers, gives Goldberg one, the crowd boos as they both drink them. They toast, Austin stuns Goldberg and the crowd loses it.

That is fantastic! I gotta' find this one YouTube. At least the stunner on Goldberg.

And thank you both, especially bostonbred, for explaining this to me. Wow.

It has to be up on youtube somewhere. It was just that bad. I could watch that match a thousand times, it was so enjoyably cringeworthy.

It's on Dailymotion.com. I briefly had the link up to it, but I deleted it when I went back and saw there were links for at least one very NSFW video off to the side of the page. If you go to that site, just do a search for Goldberg Lesnar, and it'll come up on the first page of results.
