Well, he did kick out of the first GTS and got a nearfall on a rollup.

So, he's got that going for him. :D

I was hoping that's what would happen, but knowing that there were four minutes left in the thing, there's no way that they could have made Hardy look strong enough to make the title defense realistic.

Then again, that's never stopped them before.

He turned heel for a week or two a few years back, just to set up the New Breed IIRC.

That lasted all of two weeks. The fans kept cheering for him, so they turned him back face without any explanation.

I would have liked to have seen Hardy beat Punk too, because it's getting too predictable that the MITB winner cashes in on a beat up champion and wins. I don't mind seeing Punk win the title, but I'd like it to be part of a bigger main-event feud, rather than looking like a fluke.

Other than RVD beating Cena, have any MITB winners NOT done the cheap "beat 'em while they're down" tactic?

I think that's it (although someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Kennedy had announced he would cash it in at Wrestlemania. But he got hurt and dropped the briefcase to Edge.

This is up on Wrestlezone.com and, if true, makes the booking for the WWE belt even more nonsensical:

Breaking News: Batista Injured, Getting Surgery On Tuesday
    by Matt Boone
Jun 07, 2009 According to sources, Batista is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday morning for a torn biceps muscle that he sustained in a match prior to his bout with Randy Orton at "Extreme Rules" last night. The injury was likely the reason the match only lasted just over seven minutes.

Why the company decided to go through with the title change despite the injury is still a question mark, although one would assume the reason will be revealed in the storyline going forward.

Expect an injury angle or something done on RAW tonight to get the title off of Batista, as he'll be undergoing surgery the next morning and be on the shelf as far as being an active in-ring competitor.

How many times has this guy torn his biceps? Seems like it's a yearly occurrence.

How long is the recovery period of a torn biceps tendon? If he's out for an extended period of time, I would assume Orton is pissed, and rightfully so.

I'd bet Orton went along with it, knowing he was going to get the belt back pretty soon.

Or maybe, they strip Steroid Freak of the titke and set up a tourney to culminate at the Bash.

How long until Batista is cut or retires? The guy sucks.

so tonight on Raw, does Orton give Batista a kick in the head, justifying his upcoming time off and retake the title?
