2009 Running Pro Wrestling Thread

  1. they seem to like punk in that tweener role, which makes him more interesting than a full-fledged heel. i wouldn't mind it.

miz is the most interesting commodity on raw, but he'll (mcmahon) bury him at the bash because he seems content with the same old talent.

I really hope they let Miz-Cena go a little longer. Miz has been great egging Cena on, and Cena cut a great promo tonight in the role of the cocky upper-card guy who's getting a little tired of Miz's shit. Don't know what kind of ring chemistry they have, since they haven't been in there together, but they seem to work very well together (or against each other) on the mic.

I'm not sure if I'm failing to pick up on your sarcasm, but I think the whole point of that busted limo scene was to show that McMahon was a pampered brat. The camera flashed to the arena, which was like a half mile away, and Vince flipped out about walking there.

I'm not going to complain too much. I liked Orton-HHH. Probably being a gimmick match helped. That spot at the end with the HHH attack on Orton was pretty cool.

Six-man tag was nice. Really good action by some of the company's best wrestlers.

The Vince stuff was funny. Had the Vince-Trump buyback segment on mute b/c I'm rewatching old LOST episodes online. Angry Vince is Funny Vince. That 'YOU'RE FIREEEEDDDD!!" stuff gets me every time.

Pretty sure they killed off Santina. She got 'fired' by Trump then some crafty CGI got Santino in the same area. He talked about missing her then trying to get her back but promptly finished it with "well... she had a good run." HA! I really liked that.

Totally agree. That was a damn fine promo.

  5. last man standing matches, to me, are the worst of them all. not counting the ridiculous ones like al snow's dog on a pole or hog pen match.

even though i felt like this was quite a shitty raw...looks like a very good ppv on paper. is edge officially fighting johnny morrison?

I liked Raw tonight. Loved the last man standing match but throughout the whole thing, all I could think was "Why didn't they just do this for the 'Mania main event?'

The same thought crossed my mind. I also wished that they had just let this really be the final match between the two, and then throw together some other match for the Bash. Orton vs. HHH, Cena or Batista has been done about 5,000 times now. I really have no idea what else they can do for after the Bash. My worst nightmare is that Orton retains, only to setup a triple threat with Cena and HHH.

It's time to elevate the Miz; get him involved in the title mix somehow. I would suggest MVP, but in two hours of Raw with no commercials, I don't even think he appeared, did he? Same with Kofi Kingston. This isn't TNA, so I doubt either one will pop up into the world title mix anytime soon. Heck, maybe they could even let Santino win some matches legitimately now. He's too good on the microphone to keep in the comic relief role forever.

I thought Orton was going to beat HHH and then try to take him out permanently, with HBK showing up to intervene, setting up a feud between he and HBK.

Maybe that's what they've got in store for the Bash. I hope so.

Also, anyone else think these stages of the 3 SOH are kind of lame? Don't they usually do things like ladder matches/I Quit matches in the 3SOH?

One last thing...anyone else feel cheapened by the KFC plugs?

You didn't really think it would be commercial-free, did you? Nothing's commercial-free these days, not even movies.

No, and I was fine with that. Hell, I was fine with the plugs. But when they started interjecting it into the play by play, it got on my nerves.

That was about as good as you can probably ever hope for in a Last Man Standing match anymore for a couple of reasons:

    - They've toned down the violence so much in the last year or two, you rarely see blood or really insane spots. Tables aren't gimmicked to break on impact anymore. Referees actually get a towel and wipe blood off guys' face if they get busted open.

    - LMS sounds like a much better gimmick than it actually is. You'd think it would be an all-out war, but what it normally ends up coming down to after about 10 minutes is "Guy hits move, opponent sells like death, referee takes 30-40 seconds to count to 9, injured guy gets up just in time." Lather, rinse, repeat.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm kinda bummed out that the Trump thing is over already. The videotaped promo last week had me fearing the worst, but Trump held his own in front of the live crowd (announcing that he was refunding their ticket costs probably helped that immensely), but he definitely came off well. I wouldn't mind seeing them pay this off with something at WM next spring, which it sounded like Trump was alluding to before McMahon came storming out.
