Serious question... was Rey Mysterio considered a cruiserweight?

In WCW and for most of his tenure in WWE, yes. Most would consider him still a cruiserweight, but WWE gave him the World Heavyweight Championship so who knows.

I'll make two lists. One is for songs written for the wrestler. The other is music that was around prior to the wrestler using it for his entrance.

    Songs written for wrestler:
    1. Undertaker
    2. Triple H
    3. Hulk Hogan (admit it, as a kid, Real American was pretty cool)
    4. HBK
    5. Edge
    6. Jericho
    7. Ted DiBiase (Money, Money with the laugh)
    8. Mr. Perfect
    9. Jake Roberts'
    10. Ultimate Warrior (yeah, the guy was a douche, but his entrance was pretty cool)

    Popular songs:
    1. Ric Flair's 2001 Space Odyessy (sp?)) theme
    2. The Sandman (Enter Sandman)
    3. Randy Savage's Pomp and Circumstances
    4. British Bulldogs' Rule Britannia
    5. Evil Doink the Clown's song (I forget its name)
    6. "We Are the Champions" -- Chris Adams when he first turned heel in World Class. Fans kept cheering him, so he had to change it to something else).
    7. Eye of the Tiger (Hogan's original entrance prior to Real American)
    8. Larry Zbysko using Tina Turner's 'Simply the Best' when AWA champion.
    9. Michael Hayes' Badstreet USA (was a popular radio song down south)
    10. The King theme (forget what it's called, but used by Jerry Lawler, and prior to him, Harley Race and Haku).

I think on Raw the other night they introduced him as weighing 175 or 180 pounds. So, yeah, that's a cruiserweight.

Nowadays, it seems as though most of the cruiserweights and mid-card heavyweights are just blended together and compete for the IC or U.S. Title.

    1. John Cena. I just love the way the music hits. It's got a lot of energy.
    2. Ultimate Warrior. Same with Cena, it just got you pumped up for the match.
    3. Undertaker. Perfect for the character.
    4. Hulk Hogan. Goes well with the 80s cheese of Hulkamania, and it wasn't a bad little ditty in some ways.
    5. Ric Flair. Simply a classic.
    6. The nWo theme. At first, you were excited they were coming out. Then you dreaded it. It always made you want to bitchslap the lot of them.
    7. Goldberg. A prelude to an ass-kicking.
    8. Edge. Great song, good energy.
    9. Randy Savage. A little out of place in a wrestling ring. But then again, Savage was a little goofy too. A nice pairing.
    10. Triple H. I'm running out of songs I can place, and his gets the crowd pumped. It's as good as any.

Good call on Goldberg's, although the first few times I heard it, I was thinking it sounded like a Nazi theme. His entrance with the walking from the dressing room, and the subsequent ass-kicking, made it a great entrance.

Pomp and Circumstances was originally one of Gorgeous George Wagner's themes. I've never seen any clips of it (the one YouTube clip of George's entrance was another song), but I've always liked Savage's entrance because, like you said, it's a pairing of a classical theme with a very goofy wrestler.

And when he had that belt, they went out of their way to only refer to him as the "World Champion." It was like they were afraid to recognize a 175-pounder as a heavyweight champ. Kinda silly, really.

  9. well he's bulked up quite a bit since his luchadore days in wcw.

i think it's quite funny that since raw scored an enormous television rating and vince was on the show, he decides to be a main point of this week's smackdown as well. his ego has only gotten much more inflated since purchasing wcw.

did people really tune in because of vince/trump or because of the announced last man standing match and a commercial free show? hmmmm...

  10. Mysterio bulked up because he was on the 'roids for a while. One of his extended absences was because he failed a drug test, but of course on the show they never mention this, and I've never heard anyone ask why, of all the guys in WWE, is Mysterio taking steroids? The only person who seemed less likely to use 'roids would be Hornswoggle.

Edge's entrance and theme are awesome. I get chills every time. The music, the fireworks, his theatrics. AWESOME. He's no doubt my second fave guy going right now (Orton is first).

I know this cross-brand stuff pisses a lot of you off, but I'm OK with it. I don't watch SD, so getting to see Edge on RAW is awesome.

My guess is Mysterio took it for recovery purposes. As often as he gets/got ragdolled around, anything to heal faster was likely welcome. Plus, his left knee is all sorts of jacked up...
