Of course it is. But I figured these chairs weren't complete solid steel. There are such things as "softer" folding chairs. Thought wrestling has always used them...?

And the thing that was particularly sick was that Rock waited until Foley was in position so he could whap him upside the head every time. Would it have been so wrong to hit him across the back (a much safer technique) a few times instead? The last chair shot was the worst. Completely blind shot to the back of the head. Foley couldn't even brace himself for the impact. That's ridiculously dangerous.

Wrestlers always preferred the metal chairs because they make a great sound on impact, and are actually no more or less dangerous than plastic. In fact, the steel chairs have more give.

But yes, Benoit is a big reason why most chair shots go to the back now.

4:50 or so, one of JR's famous lines ... "Climb the ladder, kid! Make yourself famous!"

    No.

Have a friend whose cousin used to be a wrestler on a small Indy promotion. He told me they never used anything soft because the metal chairs, like someone already said, had a little more give in them.

20 plus years ago, wrestlers also used wooden chairs (like Zbysko against Sammartino). Kevin Von Erich nearly was blinded by a chairshot from Chris Adams in which the chair broke and a piece went into his eye.

You want a chair shot? Here's one reason why Tommy Dreamer is one of my all-time faves.
