I know it isn't fair to say that's ALL they do. But every time I watch Raw these days, I feel like I've watched the same match for the last seven to eight weeks. Nothing changes anymore.

When I read Ric Flair's autobiography, he said the same thing about Bret Hart. Flair praised him for being a great worker when it counted, but just when it came to being in the ring, it had to be Bret's way. I quote directly from Flair's autobiography, To Be The Man:

"He [Bret] was a good, sound, physical wrestler, but with limited charisma and interview skills. He also could have been the president of his own fan club. Bret truly thought that he was the best technical wrestler who ever lived, and he was stuck in a routine that he refused to break. When he'd make his comeback, he'd rely on the same same sequence of moves - an atomic drop, a clothesline, a gut punch, a Russian leg sweep, a backbreaker, a fist drop from the second rope, and finally his finisher, the Sharpshooter - night after night with no variation!...

    This part I love:

...Don't get me wrong - Bret could have a tremendous match when it really counted, but day to day, I found him to be inflexible. And in 1997, when Bret punched out Vince McMahon over a finish in Montreal, I was appalled...At the time, Hart just signed with WCW. Since he happened to be the World Wrestling Federation champion, he needed to drop the title, Vince wanted Bret to do it at Survivor Series, but Hart wouldn't. As a so-called Canadian hero - and i really don't think Bret has anything on Wayne Gretzky - Bret refused to lose in Canada."

EmbassyRow made me think of that clip from Flair's autobiography. Thought I'd share.

I don't buy the idea that they're using an ECW run to get Christian used to working in the WWE again. They could have had Christian make a debut on Smackdown with a promo or something, then let him work off his ring-rust with house shows, then get him into a couple of SD matches, then a Wrestlemania match. They've done similar things with other wrestlers in the past.

Putting him on ECW means one of two things -- the bookers (or Vince) either felt they REALLY needed a strong face on ECW, or they don't like Christian. I don't think they would have made the splash that Jeff Hardy did, but you bring him in at No Way Out in a surprise move to cost Edge the title or to save Edge and win the match, when you bring him out on SD he'd go over huge. Instead, you waste him on ECW. Great decision.

And I'd bet Petey Williams ends up on ECW, too. If he does well, he could move on to SD, but I'd bet he makes his debut on ECW. Could be kind of cool to bring him in as a heel to feud with Evan Bourne, who should be back next month if I remember what I read right.

Or you build Christian on ECW as a very strong, very capable face who eventually takes on his old partner Edge on SmackDown for the championship in the summer.

I think they go with Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy and Edge vs. Triple H at WrestleMania (with The Undertaker perhaps thrown in there too). Not sure where that would leave Christian in the grand scheme of things if he was on SmackDown! It comes down to whether you would rather have a guy headline a show (ECW) or be a midcard guy (SD!). I think it's essentially the same spot and I'd expect him to be elevated with time. And I expect him to add some buzz and perhaps a ratings boost for the show, taking over Matt Hardy's slot that was vacent after the Rumble.

Interesting. I'd have to agree with Naitch to a lesser degree. I don't think Hart was nearly as good as he thinks he was.

I think it's safe to say that the terms of his contract and the initial storylines he'd be involved in were discussed with Vince or some other executive, I assume. I'd assume there was mutual interest between both Vince and Christian for him to return, but Vince obviously wasn't going to dog him and put him in the role he was in which made him quit WWE in the first place.

I've watched his re-debut about four or five times on YouTube, and while Grisham and Striker aren't J.R. or even Cole, they make it seem like Christian pulled a hammy three weeks ago with the way they announced his return.

    Very undersold.

This smacks of "oh crap, we changed the plan and made Matt Hardy turn on Jeff, now what in hell are we going to do with Christian?" They should have held off until WM, made him a surprise Money in the Bank competitor, have him win and then wait until he chooses which champion he wants to go after to determine which brand he goes to. But he may not be over enough to warrant a run at the top right away, so this isn't as bad as it could be -- though Grisham could have sold it way better.

Anyone believe there is a chance that Christian will be in the MITB match at WM25? That could definitely spice up his return a bit...[/christianfanboi]

I wish I hadn't made you think of that. I happen to love Bret Hart's work.

Oh, I do, too. I loved Bret Hart when I was younger and because I was too young to really understand nor care about the items that Flair laid out, I was just loved the way he performed. Having read Flair's autobiography, that piece of Hart kind of stuck in my mind when you brought it up. Hart will easily go down as one of the greatest wrestlers in WWF/WWE history.

Oh, I hope he ends up in it. I don't know if they give him the win, but I hope he ends up in it. He'd be awesome in that match.
