Carolina's in 8th, not Atlanta. I believe the Leafs bypassed the Thrashers with tonight's win, in which they demonstrated an incredible level of poise in the last two minutes after the Habs pulled to within a goal. Their forechecking and neutral-zone play were outstanding.

    I stand corrected.

Leafs play in the neutral zone was pretty good. They hardly ever turned pucks over, something they did on a regular basis in the first part of the season

Kessel was solid and you can't say enough good things about Colby Armstrong and Bozak

And in other news (maybe it was posted earlier) Mr Enigmatic has been dealt to the Pens. I'm sure Kovalev will replace Sid and Geno's offense

Should have seen that trade coming in Raleigh. Dealt Ian White and his salary and got a defensemen much, much cheaper in a separate deal in San Jose (though the latter drew raves from former resident Bret Hedican). Then dealt a fourth-liner who hadn't been with the organization long - and had been hurt, to boot - for a familiar face who was liked by everyone and take a little salary back in return.

The fact that Jim Rutherford continues to keep this organization competitive considering the ridiculous financial limitations placed on him by Peter Karmanos is admirable. Now ... will Stillman end up on a line with Staal and Cole like in '06? He does help address a left wing issue in Raleigh.

Gladly switching to fevered games of NHL 10 while the Caps continue to suck it up at home. Surely Boudreau will say this fucking joke of a showing was because of a hot goalie.

Semin's gotta go. Gutless fucking puke.

In case anyone missed it tonight: Matt Cooke, assistant captain.

New Ducks goalie Dan Ellis gave up the softest goal of the season. A medium-speed slap shot from the top of the left circle. No one in front of him. He was down on his knees, but the puck still got through the 5-hole.
Made it 2-1 Wild late in the third. Ducks came back to tie with 2 minutes left, then give up two clear breakaways in OT. Wild cashed in the second one with 6.3 seconds left.

Boudreau ddn't mince words last night, ripping the team for poor ass play. The effort was disgraceful. You can count on one hand the number of players who showed up to play for the Caps last night. McPhee needs to make a move, and hopefully it includes shipping Semin's Charmin ass out of there. He has no balls.

But BB is right. Last night was pathetic. I see more and more instances where this team decides beforehand that certain games aren't worthy of a concerted effort.

I can stand errors of commission, but I cannot forgive a complete lack of wanna.

They named a whole county in Pennsylvania for those people -- Lackawanna. The Yankees AAA team plays there.

Great column on Crosby with a little Dave Duerson in there too. Bidini, one of Canuckistan's great writers on music, sports (especially hockey) and pop culture, ties it all together quite nicely IMO.

Caps pick up Marco Sturm on waivers. Hopefully that means Semin is out soon.
