Yeah, got them from a scalper on Front Street -- face was $105. I was going to try to talk him down to $70 but it was too cold to negotiate. For $10, I just wanted to be able to feel my face again.

Kessel's goal was pretty impressive but I thought Phaneuf played a pretty weak game. He looked awful on Connor's goal.

Hey, it's not that cold. :)

Phaneuf shit the bed on the Connor goal but he made it up in spades with this rush on the OT goal. He willed himself up the ice.

Glad you had a good time. Next time, let some of us Canucks know you're in town and you can buy us all a beer.

Besides with the Sabres new owner there is no way Buffalo lets Miller walk.

Benn is going to be a good player for a long time.

That gets you season tickets in Miami, Atlanta and Phoenix.

So you're telling me the team that is currently third overall in the league has a chance to win the cup? wow, that is some insightful analysis right there.

I totally understand the visceral appeal of a great hockey fight and I've been on my feat screaming with the rest of the crowd. I'm really starting to rethink things.

Quietly, the Bruins return home from a 6-0 road trip (Isles, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa). They only beat one power on that trip, but when a team puts together a consistent run like that on a long trip, you have to consider them a legitimate Cup contender.
And with Tukka Rask playing three games and finally looking like the Tukka of 09-10, any team would envy that 1-2 punch in the net.

Debate in the office last night over whether this should have been a penalty shot.
Salei barely touched Ryan vs. Salei slashed Ryan then got his stick in his skates, which is supposed to be a penalty.
No debate that Ryan was clear of the defense, so if it's a penalty at all, it has to be a penalty shot.
In live action, the incident looked worse than in slo-mo replay.
Several stories on the wire said "Ryan was hauled down by Salei." No, he wasn't really hauled down.
Jimmy Howard said Ryan tripped himself, toe-picked.
Anyway, anytime the Red Wings lose it's a good night.

Actually, they'll pay you $80 to accept season tickets in Phoenix.

If you're really special, they'll promise you almost $200 million to own their team and operate their arena.

I've seen more penalty shots this year in the OHL than I can remember. Used to be you had to haul a guy on a breakaway down and keep him from getting a shot off before they called it. Now I have seen them called when the d-men dives, touches the puck and then the guy falls. Saw one guy get a shot off - and get the rebound - before going down and the ref called one. You don't even need to be on a clear breakaway anymore - just a step or two ahead of the defender and you're good to get one.

The problem in hockey is not fighting. It's a lack of respect. You are never going to completely legislate concussions out of hockey, even if it is made a non-contact game. The problem is you've got retards like Matt Cooke running around and taking other people's lives into their own hands. Want to get rid of idiots like that start with an automatic 10 game suspension for a deliberate blind side hit for a first offence with fines of up to 10 per cent of the player's annual salary, in addition to lost pay. Hit 'em where it hurts. If that means Ovechkin "crosses the line" and hits some one from the blindside and the NHL is without one of it's superstars, too bad. He knows the rules. It worked to stop bench clearing brawls in the 80s and it can work again now. Also hammer home the family side of these stories with the players, bring in widows of some of these players (whether they are former hockey or football wives) to testify what concussions did long term to their husbands and families. Take the offenders to the BU lab where they are doing the research. Scare the respect back into them. I honestly don't think the likes of Cooke, et all really contemplate this.

While admittedly not all fights fall into the policeman roll, it is one of the last alternatives for the players to keep some level of respect amongst them, especially when league officials (i.e. refs) lose control of the game. I would rather see a fight than someone try to get even with a Marty McSorely two hander or a Todd Bertuzzi sneak attack. In fact Probert's wife was quoted in the CP story today saying that she didn't think the brain damage Bob suffered was due to his fighting but the hits he took in hockey. The reality is we will never know for sure one way or the other and I am not dismissing the the likelihood that probably a good portion of his brain injuries were caused by fighting. But again fighting is not the main culprit here. In comparison there is no fighting in football and that sport is arguably even more ravaged by concussions.
