My bad. I had "JR" mixed up with "JC"

The PP idea for overtime is just plain dumb and not worth discussing. The bear said it best.

My overtime idea is basically just like a shootout involving more skaters. Instead of a team's shootout turn being a breakaway situation (something not totally indicative of the sport) it would be a 5-on-4 or 5-on-3 situation (something a little more indicative of the sport). You would still be taking turns trying to score, just like a shootout.

3-on-3 would be cool to watch, but how often do you see 3-on-3 play in a game? Even less than you see breakways with all the time in the world to shoot.

At least a power play is something that happens frequently during the game.

    Oh well. Next discussion.

For whatever reason, Lorne Chabot is not in the HOF. With the exception of wins, he's better than Osgood in almost every category.

    Streak on, Big Baby Jesus.
    Streak on.

edit: he's kinda really good. Goals 31 and 32 in the first period tonight.

His 61 points puts him 11 ahead of Stamkos who's in second place and 19 up on OV who's not even in the discussion any more about who's the best player in hockey

EDIT: This puts Sid's streak at 25 games. The streak is 51 set by you know who in '83-84

4-point night for Sid, now 15 ahead of Stamkos (Tampa play tonight?)

During the game they put up the numbers on Gretzky's streak. 153 points in his 51-game streak. Exactly 3 points per game. Disgusting.

Edit: Couple points for Stamkos tonight. Lead is 13.

Osgood is the classic example of stats accumulation due to being around a while on a really good team. He was never one of the top goalies in any era he played in and should not be a hall of famer.

OV's not even the best player in the Southeast Division at this point.

That said, Caps with points in five straight after the whitewashing of Les Habitants tonight at the Phone Booth. Nice recovery after an awful stretch.

Sorry, although I'm on the fence about whether Osgood's a hall of famer, this idea that he accumulated good stats because of the great teams he was on doesn't wash: he was PART of those teams.

The logical extension of that argument is that Ken Dryden shouldn'tbe in the HOF either.

The longevity and strength of Osgood's career is that he adapted to the game. He changed from the last of a dying breed---the stand-up goalie to a modified butterfly goalie.

Osgood was part of those great teams, but he was never called upon to be great himself (and his play was never the difference maker for those Wings teams). Dryden was the best goalie of his era, at least arguably. Osgood rarely even broke into the top 5 goalies in any given season.

Osgood was an average goalie on a great team. Dryden was a great goalie on a great team. Trying to compare the two is insane.

he played with a bunch of hall of famers and was good, but not great. not sure if he was ever a top 5 goalie.
