2010-2011 NHL season

  1. You're right. I won't argue Sid isn't the best in the game. He is, and it's not even close. And I'm not even saying I wouldn't like to have him on my team. I'd LOVE to see him in Thrasher blue instead of Penguin black and gold (not that it is even an option).

I'm just staying is, his act gets REALLY irritating, but then, I suppose that makes him even more effective. As much as I respect his ability, I love it any time somebody hits him — hard.

The Crosby whining shit is ridiculous.

It's 2:05 on the east coast.

I wonder how many trips to Haagen-Daz Bruce Boudreau has made today?

  6. Won't argue that, either. :D Even though he was called "The Great One" for a reason, I always preferred Messier.

What, Mr. "I Can Cry at the Drop of a Hat" Messier?

  8. Sheesh.

    What?

Messier's crying (retirement, HHOF induction) is legendary. And he jokes about it.

That's hockey. It's no different with Sid than it is with any other star. You take a run at the other team's star and the hockey code is going to police itself. That's why there's scorers and enforcers and Sid and his teammates are no different than any other team with a star. And when you have a star as big as Sid, that protection is magnified.

Watching the HBO series, I see just as much "whining" from the Caps as I do from Sid. Anytime Sid is seen talking to a ref, people think he is whining. In actuality, he has a "C" on his sweater and part of his job is to work the refs just like captains and coaches do in every sport.

Sid carries himself with 100% class (take notice OV). Doesn't take cheap shots on the ice or in the press. Does more stuff in the Pittsburgh community than any other player in the league does for theirs and never "whines" about it. The only one whining is you.

I'm a Crosby guy myself, but this - even if it were quantifiable or objective - might be a bit much.

Of course there's no way to measure something like this so who really knows. But I'm sure he isn't far off.

He is the marketing face of the entire sport right now -- not just for his team alone -- and he has embraced the responsibility of that role. In Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger's marketing stock has dropped considerably. Nobody even knows any of the Pirates players. No NBA team. So Sid is the guy. Public appearances and photo ops and charity stuff and all that other stuff happening left and right and he always does it with a smile. A diva he is not. He's soft spoken, humble and gracious with his time. And all of 23 years young to boot.

I think a lot of the Sid-hating stems from jealousy and frustration at his success.
