Not shocking, but three times this season, Staal's been on the verge on coming back only to have a setback. Very encouraging to see him come back, the guy has had some tough luck.

Jerome Bettis looked incredibly uncomfortable on the ice.

Most of the hating stems from being force fed a diet a single player in a team sport and hyperbole like yours. I know a good number of players who probably do equal or more community service work. They just don't have it all captured on camera.

Crosby is boring, whiny and extraordinarily talented. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to deify him.

And you haven't been watching him closely if you think he never does anything dirty on the ice. He both dives (he is not alone in that in the league at all, obviously, but it is a less-than-savory part of his game) and has committed a number of cheap shots. The near slew foot and the, er, cup check from a few years ago come to mind right away.

The only people deifying Crosby are the witless people in the NHL head office and over at NBC who seem incapable of coming up with creative ways of promoting the sport.

The WC is a tired marketing gimmick and to promote the event the best they can come up with is dredging up a tired old rivalry between Sid and OV, a rivalry which only exists in NBC's fantasies. Sid lapped OV after the Olympics

Sid is the best player in the world right now. No one else is in the conversation but all the Crosby haters can come up with is that he's "whiny".

Leafs might not be the worst team in Ontario.

To be fair, I can't blame the NHL for playing it safe with Caps-Pens/Ovechkin-Crosby this time around, given how this is the last year of the NBC/Versus contract and they would like a lucrative deal this time. Might as well go for the ratings to boast about when those talks come. And if they could get HBO to sign on for a four-part documentary series, even better. I'm not sure HBO would've signed on with another two teams.

Along with Ottawa, there might be a couple of Junior D teams Toronto can beat.

It's a good thing they're going to have a top pick to help turn . . . oh yeah that's right they won't.

I'm sorry, it's old. It's uncreative. But I still love it. Burke you are a genius.

Amen. The Sid vs. OV thing is getting incredibly old and tired.
